Standing water 1, my TSX 0

Hydroplaned on the freeway this morning (3 hours ago in Richmond). I managed to slow the car down enough but couldn't regain traction. No injuries or other cars involved, thankfully. It was nasty rain the whole trip...

No airbags deployed but car is banged up pretty well. I came to a rest on a guardrail.

You know the feeling when you get struck in the groin, and it goes to your stomach, and then your diaphragm depletes the air in your lungs?

That's about how I felt looking at those pics...dammitman.

Good to know you're ok, glad you didn't flip it. There was a new Durango down the street from my work Wednesday...shiny side down...it can always be worse.

Aw man these pictures are killin me. So sorry to hear about your ride. Must have been a lot of water. Drainage in the area not good maybe??

I wouldn't be so quick to say anything about the injury part...you're probably running on adrenaline right now. Might start feeling things towards the middle of the week...

When I saw the first pic I was thinking "standing water 1? It looks like the water is beading like crazy so how's that standing water 1?" and then my eyes slowly caught on to the damage. Ugh. Sorry about the crash and glad to know you're ok. At least you crashed in style, with a nice wax job.

Thanks for all the kind words. I should hear back from the adjuster on Monday or Tuesday with some news. I don't expect it'd be totalled because no airbags deployed... but I do wonder because in my last accident both airbags deployed and it seemed to be at the same speed. All the same I hope the airbags did what they were supposed to. This sucks though

That hurts to see another TSX owner crash their car. (esp. a V6) It just looks cosmetic and I would think with the value of that car still high it is not totaled. That extensive rear quarter damage is what has me worried for you. The main issue is no one got hurt. You might want to slow down in the rain when you may not be sure of road conditions.

I could have gone slower but the Highway patrolman commented that he was doing 35 and still hydroplaned on the way to the scene. I was waiting in my car once i moved it out of the path of other cars until the police arrived. I saw other cars hitting the same spot and begin fishtailing. I guess I was the lucky one who got to do donuts though :L

I just hope there is a happy ending. In the mean time, I'll be breaking in the Wrangler we bought last month.

I was thinking that in the likely scenario that this isn't totaled out... Do you folks think I'll have an issue getting the Type-S kit replaced by the dealership? They should be able to order the parts from TSX special edition, right?

Ya I think you should be able to. Coordinate with your adjuster and the dealer an start pricing the parts.

Updated Pix

I went out to the body shop to pick up my belongings from inside the car. Initial estimate from GEICO was around 10k. That is before they pulled off the bumpers and other parts that you see removed. Any other damage will be additional $$$... don't think its gonna be totaled though. They estimated it being done around Christmas.

Also, I need to gather part numbers for the Type-S kit so that that can be taken into account.

You may be in luck, since the Type S and SE have the same rear bumpers.

On Bernardi site, both bumpers has the same list price:

04715-TL0-A90ZZ (rear bumper) for 2010 TSX V6 =$371.95 (list price)

04715-TL0-A80ZZ (rear bumper) for 2012 TSX SE =$371.95 (list price)

when my husband hydroplaned in our 05 hyundai elantra last year the tires were new. They had excellent reviews. He hit a guardrail causing $4,000 worth of damage. Luckily he was not hurt.

The same happened to me, minus the guardrail. I hit a hydrant back in April of this year totaling my Mazda. New tires too an I was literally down the street from home too. Needless to say it was my first wreck and i ended up walking home... A short walk btw. My road was freshly paved an it had just rained an there was an uneven shoulder. I wasn't speeding either, didn't get a ticket an the state trooper was very understanding even with water everywhere lol

This is why I'm here ready to get in a new TSX. Didn't mean to thread jack OP. Any update on your car? Glad your ok!

The shop has supposedly been trying to get ahold of me because they are having difficulty locating the parts according to my Geico dude. I emailed them part numbers and pictures and exploded parts diagrams days ago so I'm not sure what the deal is... Anyhow, thats where we're at.

^ WOAH! That's a lot of money! I hate when someone at the body shop isn't doing their job OR the adjuster. I was using Geico too but they dropped me after my first wreck and I was with them since I was 15. My adjuster was nice... but... very slow and I had to leave HIM messages to get updates. He always had an excuse as to why he couldn't/didn't return my calls when he was suppose too.

OP, do you know what percentage of value when your insurance company totals it? Some are 40%, others higher, maybe some lower. Also, FWIW, some states will allow you to calculate & receive "loss of future value" credit for something with this kind of extensive damage. That would help bolster your case to total it as well.

One of my friends had an 04 TL 6MT, got clipped in a glancing head on collision, didn't look very bad, most of the guys here on the TL area said it wouldn't be totalled, but it was, using some of the info I mentioned above.

The airbag control module does literally millions of calculations to determine if, when and how an airbag should deploy. The simplistic question it asks is "will deploying an airbag reduce injury.

If none of your body parts came into contact with an immovabe object and caused injury, then the airbags did exactly what they were supposed to do - not deploy.

The first generation airbags were much simpler and relied on a few sensors behind the bumpers. The bumpers got whacked and the airbag deployed.

Those days are long gone and the only concern is if there was an injury that an airbag could have prevented but it didn't go off.
