Stable chassis?

First off, I do not condone street racing or driving like this on a typical road so if you haven't had your car well into the triple digits then don't go doing it now.

Anywho, The other day I had the car up well into the triple digit speeds and held it there for about three and a half to four minutes. The steering was confident but the car felt like it turned into a block of ice it was so rigid. When letting off the gas and coasting back to a reasonable speed the chassis then seemed to be vibrating terribly. I was checking the steering and braking a bit, took it down to 20mph and then back to 60. But then it felt normal again. Maybe the chassis shakes like hell at normal speeds but we're just used to it? Tell ya what though, I wasn't confident at all in the cars ability to maneuver or do anything well at all.

Anyone else experience this? Do any suspension upgrades? Did it fix the "problem"?-so to speak. I've never owned a car before that acted like that at high speeds and worse coming down. Wonder if the wheels just arent balanced very well.

I guess I don't completely understand your complaint.

Chasis rigidity is not tied to speed. However, aerodynamics can give the impression of the vehicle becoming more or less stable at high speed (push or lift).

Not knowing how this car behaves in excess of 110 mph I cannot say as I have experienced this but I have been in excess of 150 in other vehicles and cars with proper aerodynamics for those speeds will become "heavier" with speed. Since the suspension compresses under this scenario, it is possible for the car to appear to vibrate when decelerating but I would suspect road instead of car.

I truly doubt this car provide significant additional aerodynamic downforce at speed, I would expect lift. Anyway, I would suspect you could have wheel balance issues. Not having ridden in the car with you there is really no way to ascertain if there is a problem and what it could be.

Dealer?

It should not be vibrating. Either you have bad tire wear, balancing issues or alignment/suspension issues.

lol, i doubt the dealer is going to try to troubleshoot a problem you encountered while going at unreasonably high speeds.

On German Autobahn I drive often 230km and more (on the Speedo) thats about 145mph, never had a problem with my car!!!
Only the hood is vibrating so much, but then I got under warranty a new hood seal

AHAHA! Yeah. I'm not gonna mention that. ;-D

@DJ... I remember going almost this fast in a hyundai sonata, an '05 at that, and i never felt anything like this. But you may be right, I might just be feeling the change on the downswing and feeling the road for how it really is. Like i said, i was cruisin for a solid three minutes+ so maybe i got used to the smoothed out feeling of the road. Anyway, just thought it was an interesting observation coming from a car like this.

Thanks for the inputs.

^ Tried 125 early one morning with no cars around for miles, totally stable on/off throttle. My cars does have 19" alloy with sticky Yokohama Advan Sport tyres and 1" lowered with Honda sports suspension.

You would notice wheel balance problem well below the century mark.

My guess is a combination of road surface, change in airflow as you slow down (underbody air flow disturbance) and all season tires reacts while cooling down after speed run.

Our European counterpart (Accord) does not run on all seasons tires. They use either Michelin or Yokohama V or W rated summer tires that offer superior grip compare to our North American TSX Michelin HX MXM4's.

Noted. I know tires make a tremendous impact but maybe these suck more than what im used to. Suspension/wheel/tire upgrade slated for next August. I'll check it out again after that before I make anymore observations. Thanks again for the inputs.
