Review - Road and Track Update

I don't think this has been posted on here yet. This again confirms the new TSX is ever as fast as the last gen even though it gains 100 lbs or so and has 4 less hp. Seems like the improvement in the torque curve really helps. Also note the much better skidpad number than the last gen (0.84g vs 0.78g). Below is the article, taken from,

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=6833

In Douglas Kott's First Drive of the new TSX in our May issue, he guesstimated that the all-new 2009 Acura (based on the European Honda Accord) would hit 60 mph in less than 8 seconds and speed through the quarter mile in the mid-15s.

Well, Kott can keep his job. In our testing, this front-driver — though significantly wider and a bit heavier than the last TSX — did just that, hitting 60 in 7.5 sec. and the quarter mile in 15.5 sec. at 91.1 mph. That's a respectable performance for a 3385-lb. car whose 2.4-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine produces 201 bhp at 7000 rpm and 172 lb.-ft. of torque at 4400. For the record, our test TSX had the slick-shifting 6-speed manual gearbox, not the 5-speed automatic, a no-cost option.

Acura's goal with the new TSX was to keep the sporty traits of the outgoing model while luring additional buyers with more refinement. For the most part Acura has succeeded, creating a TSX that's only 0.2 mph slower in the slalom (perhaps due to its extra 3 in. of width) but circles our skidpad at 0.84g (versus 0.78g for the previous TSX). And inside, the new TSX clearly has moved upmarket, now nearly as spacious as a TL and fitted with leather front seats that offer excellent lateral support, especially in the shoulder area. Acura's Technology Package — which teams a fantastic voice-activated nav system with a 10-speaker DVD-Audio sound system that puts most home stereos to shame — dramatically ups the TSX's luxury quotient.

With the Technology Package, the new TSX lists for $32,060. Without it, a reasonable $28,960.

Performance Summary:

0–60 mph: 7.5 sec
0–100 mph: 18.8 sec
0–1320 ft (1/4 mile): 15.5 sec @ 91.1 mph
Top speed: 130 mph*
Braking, 60–0 mph: 137 ft
Braking, 80–0 mph: 240 ft
Lateral accel (200-ft skidpad): 0.84g
Speed thru 700-ft slalom: 63.8 mph

By the way, here are the numbers for the IS250, the closest rival to the TSX:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...cs+page-2.html

PERFORMANCE RATINGS:
Zero to 60 mph: 7.1 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 19.1 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 41.3 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 8.4 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 15.4 sec @ 90 mph
Top speed (drag limited, mfr's est): 142 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 170 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: —*

Seems to me they are as fast as each other. From a dig, he IS250 has the upper hand, but from a roll the TSX is a bit faster.

In case you are wondering, I can't use the same magazine for these 2 cars, as C&D hasn't done a performance test on the TSX, while Road and Track didn't do one for the IS250.

Nice to see something positive!

1st gen haters need not post here to try to make yourselves feel better. I think we already know how you feel, getting tired of the same haters posting the same nonsense. You don't like the front grill, yada , you don't like the huge wheel wells, yada yada, why didn't Honda engineers contact you directly and ask for your opinions because they really count, yada yada, we get the point, now the STFU.

Let the 2nd Gen enjoy there purchases, you go back over to your forum and threads and pat yourselves on the back for making the best car purchase in modern day history.

Lets carry on with the positivity!

I had a chance to finally take the TSX out today into the mountains and around the twisties. I was also finally able to open it up a little as I'm just about done breaking in the engine. Let's just say I enjoyed every second of it and I had a huge smile on my face. It's no sports car, but it was much better than I was expecting. If there is one thing that stands out about this car, it's the slick.. and i mean SLICK, 6mt. it's soo smooth!

I hope I get the new TSX as the courtesy car when I bring my TL in for service.

Funny, I predicted earlier that the new car would outperform the old on the skidpad:
...3) Wider track should increase skidpad numbers (may result in slower slalom times)...
See post #60 in this thread: Currrent Owners, would you buy.... It's kind of funny, I even got the slower slalom times right....

lol, Colin, you were correct right from the beginning!

Also, I saw that someone in that thread said the TSX is torqueless compared to the other entry level sedans. Again, this has been proven wrong. Compared to the IS250, the TSX actually makes more torque has every rpm even though it has less displacement.

Well to be fair, it is relatively torqeless, but it is the only one coming to the party with a n/a 4 cylinder.
