Very cool, just wish it were legal.

Unfortunately, if your car was parked somewhere and someone were to hit it from behind, you could be held at fault if they were to notice or the cop were to notice you had no rear reflectors.

Aren't there still reflectors in the actual tail light assembly, though? In between the reverse lights and the primary brake lights...that small block is a reflector. Or does there have to be stand-alone reflectors, as well? Or am I just totally trippin'.

I don't believe that portion of the taillights are reflectors.

Nice work! As for the legal stuff, I'd doubt you'd ever get rolled for it.

i think they are, i was looking at that area once and thinking to take the reflectors out and put in leds there too.

is the reflectors law everywhere?

I just looked at them and they're not reflectors. They are slightly "reflective" just because of the chrome in the taillight that's behind the glass, but they're not true reflectors like the ones on the bottom of the bumper and the ones built into the side of the taillights.

And I'm also pretty sure the reflector law is a national law for all vehicles, not a state-by-state law. All cars in the US are required to have amber reflectors on the front and front sides, and red reflectors on the rear and rear sides.

That being said though, even though it might be "technically" illegal to have these in place of the reflectors, I think the chance of being busted for it or called out for it in a wreck are very small.

I'm confused. the 3rd gen TL doesn't have rear reflectors so why would it matter with the TSX?

I came from the truck world, and everyone liked to put the line of fire LEDs on their trucks. ya know, the LED strip in between the bumper and tailgate acting as a 4th brake light.

the only trouble i see is if this mod doesn't act like a brake light and is on ALL the time.

Some one care to shed some light?

i noticed that too, but not just on the TL. i know bmws and benzes dont have seperate reflectors like the tsx. they have very subtle ones embedded with in the tail lights, which i think the TL does too. but i know my dads 03 mb c320 coupe doesnt seem to have any. its one thing i have always noticed about his car.

i wouldnt want to keep them on all the time. but that depends if they stay red all the time. if they dont then i guess youd have to keep them on. are the strips clear? if so the reflectors would still work.

The 3rd gen TL does have rear reflectors, they're just not standalone reflectors like on the TSX. The TL's rear reflectors are built into the taillights.

There's nothing illegal about having red LED strips on the rear of your car, even if they're on all the time that's still legal. They do not have to operate with the brake lights either if you have working brake lights already.

Some E60 5-Series's had stand-alone reflectors towards the bottom of the bumper, IIRC.

Thanks for the clarification on whether there were reflectors on the face of the tail light assembly...good to know.

There is a reflective strip at the bottom of that 3-Series' taillights. Trust me...otherwise they would not be able to legally sell that car in the U.S.
