Thumbs down Rattles!!!

Hello all! New to the forum. I purchased a leftover 2012 TSX Sportwagon in April. Love the car. Problem is it rattles in two areas. One I believe to be the RF door/speaker area. The other appears to be at the top of the door frame on the drivers side. I took it to Elite Acura in Maple Shade. The acknowledged both rattles when we went on a test drive. They called and said the drivers side rattle was in the headliner and they would resolve it. They said about the passenger side rattle that they took a '13 TSX out and reproduced the same rattle and that it was "inherent" in the build?!? I get both of the noises simultaneously over longer patches of rough but not straight up pot hole-laiden road surface. When I picked up the car, as I expected, the drivers side rattle still there. I knew it wasn't in the headliner. The drivers side rattle sounds like somebody taking a piece of notebook paper between their thumbs and blowing on it(clear a mud?). The passenger side rattle is just that, straight up something vibrating against something metal. Anyone have this? I paid 30k for this car, planned to keep it for a very long time. It seems crazy for a dealer to say of a 2012 car rattles are just "part of the build". Help! And thanks to my new community!

I sometimes here an odd noise in my '10, it sounds like a metal brush rubbing against metal. But I've only heard it 2x since I've owned the car. It sounds like it's coming from the trunk. Other than that I can say with confidence my car is so quiet I can hear the rear shocks compressing/decompressing.

Passenger side: Are u sure it isnt the sunglass holder? Leave it open and see if the rattle stops. Its the open close mechanism that rattles, at least on mine.
Shoved a microfiber cloth up there.

Drivers side: I'm trying to pinpoint that one as well. I thought maybe its the seat belt stansion possibly.

Got an intermittent dash rattle too now.

Also own a sportwagon 2012

Exclamation What I've already done...

Thanks for the quick responses! So yes, I first heard the rattle and my wife pointed to the sunglasses holder. I had a pair in there, took them out and it went away. For a week. Then I just drove the vehicle for a week without the radio on, heard the rattle in the LF door by the speaker. Turned on a base heavy track, created the rattle without driving. The LF door "vvvvvrrrrr" noise has never gone away. It sounds like the upper door frame is vibrating against the body of the car. So I know it is not the sunglasses holder. Nor is it anything in any storage area. Drove with the vehicle completely empty. Including the cargo cover, which used to rattle in my Subaru. The noise in the RF door is getting more constant. I am so frustrated as I went "all in" by researching this car heavily, and now possessing the title. I really own it. I want it to be as quiet as a lame Camry. It would be, if not for these rattles and a dealership that says it is part of the car. Thanks to the advice. Keep it coming!

My 2010 rattles so much. I am on a neverending quest to fix all of them. Dynamat in the doors helped some... but the doors still have some rattle. I also have the rattle in my headliner. Its the most annoying thing ever and i have no idea how to solve it. The sunglasses holder rattled also, but i took it apart and hot glued the loose pieces together and it dosen't rattle anymore.

Also in the trunk, there is a small metal box thing next to the sub (i think it's the amp for the sub?). It rattles against the rear deck, so i shoved a microfiber in between that and the deck.

My '09 rattles like crazy too and I have had a very annoying "tick tick tap tap" rattle in the rear since I purchased the car that even the shop couldn't locate and fix. However, I have owned and driven many Hondas and Acuras and they all rattled, so...

I get the sunglasses holder noise when I have sunglasses in there. Usually opening and closing it fixes it. I also get the seat belt height rattle every now and then. I just move it up and back down to fix it for a while.

Sometimes I think the driver side treeter is rattling over bumps but I can be sure.

I have found that any noises that emanate from around the door frames that may sound like rattles, believe it or not, can probably be eliminated by using some Amorall or similar on the door weatherstripping (which I started doing pro-actively after I discovered it and it's made a difference). Also, I had a "rattle" near what I thought was the top of the driver's door in my 05. It turned out to be the windshield (it disappeared after I replaced the windshield). Both noise were/are apparently caused by what I assume was minor flexing of the body which caused the rubbing of various dissimilar materials, which often can sound like a rattle.

2010 6 MT owner here with 58,000 miles on the odo...i also have creaks all over the car. there's a creak in the driver's side A pillar, a creak in the passenger side B pillar (near the seatbelt), and the plastic grey/silver trim along the base of the dash creaks ALL OVER. the dealer put some weatherstripping/foam under it and the problem went away for about a year, but it came back this summer.

otherwise, i had the brake TSB issue but no other real issues with the car.

So...

We all just spent $30k on a car that rattles like a emphasima patient? This is disheartening...

^ Pretty much. Not to mention manufactured in Japan with who knows how many components sourced close to the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.

Maybe that's the rattle I'm hearing. It's driving me insane. I thought it was coming from the center headrest posts.

Yeah it was annoying as hell. the microfiber solved it though. I also took apart all my doors and dynamatted the door and panel. Then i took apart the sunglasses holder assembely and glued the loose pecies that could rattle.

The only rattles left in my car now... the one right near the sunroof (drives me fucking ISNANE) and a small rattle in the driver door.

Can you shed some more light on how you did that (took it out and what pieces to glue? I have the same rattle and it is fortunately the ONLY one I have!

Thanks.

I will get some pics up later. But you need to basically do this:

open the sunglasses holder door, unscrew the two screws.
take a small screwdriver and remove the plastic covers for the two map lights, then take out the screws that are under those
Now you've taken out all 4 screws... carefully pull down and the whole unit comes out. Unclip everything and it comes free

I put some hot glue around all the loose pieces (homelink controls rattle the worst) and this solved the problem. i also lined the inside of the glasses holder with some stick on foam stuff so it won't rattle when i have glasses inside.

One more possible rattle for y'all. I would occasionally hear a rattle that sounded like it was coming from the steering cowl or instrument cluster area. Took me a good two weeks or so to figure out it was coming from the damn key! The plastic case was rattling on Key #1. I could squeeze it and stop the rattling. Started using Key #2 and now no rattles. Now I have another reason to dislike the keys - way too large, and noisy.

I've found that the grab handle on the driver's side headliner rattles as well. Sounds like it is coming from the B pillar or the door. A door bumper from a kitchen cabinet solved that problem.

If you pull the handle down, you can see two spaces where it looks like little bumpers should go. I cut a kitchen door bumper apart and wedged each half into one of the spots.

Pull the handle down while driving. If the rattle goes away then it needs a bumper.

I added some felt (for furniture) inside of the sunglass holder because my sunglasses were rattling in the holder. I shall try the kitchen bumper to see if that takes away some of the rattles.

Sometimes I think the passenger seatbelt is rattling against the B-Pillar - but I could be wrong.

No, but the bass from the door speakers makes something inside the door rattle.

Open up your door and fish around in there for the culprit. My rattle comes from the passenger dash/A pillar region and only happens randomly at highway speeds. I can't pinpoint it to start taking stuff apart yet.

Sigh... mine's almost three months old and already has a rattle. Kindof disappointing when you've spent over 30k on a car. I'm gonna have my dealer investigate at the first oil change though. Seems to be coming from the passenger side around the A pillar.
