Random (noob) question about servicing the car...
I haven't hit 5000 miles yet, but am just about at the 6 months period of owning my car. Should I go in for a check soon at the 6 months period, or wait until I actually hit 5000 miles?
Thanks!
Thanks!

it's a car-drive it
as others wrote-follow the maintenance minder(oil life) when it gets to 15% it will show a code of what needs to be done-the manual explains what the codes are.
I personally like taking my car to the dealer for service-they are excellent, do not try to sell me unneeded service and do not overcharge. 130,000+ miles on the car.
My mom has a 08 honda accord which is not driven alot. We do not follow the maintenance minder. We get the car serviced once-a-year. Her car, bought new 3/31/08 has about 23,000 miles

That was my plan--to just bring it in at 5000 miles. It's just that the dealer has really been annoyingly calling me A LOT recently saying I should bring it in because THEY calculated I would be at 5000 miles by now, even though I am not. Just irritating having to keep telling them I am NOT at 5000 miles yet.

go to a different dealer. there are NO mileage intervals for acuras. even the 105K mi timing belt service is noted by the MID (code 4).
if your dealer is that pushy...i'd go to a different dealer if possible. follow your MID...did some of us say that already?

there is no code for brake fluid change-should be done every 3 years no matter the mileage.
even if they take the car to another dealer they will still get the annoying calls from the original dealer. The only information shared among dealers is warranty work and recalls.

yeah i realized that the TSX has a chain and not a belt. but still.
point being just follow the MID. the more hwy you drive the longer the maintenance interval (like 7-8k mi maybe more) between oil changes.
more city...shorter interval. 4-5k mi.

I have 22K on my TSX wagon, and it has only asked for service twice. It's quite remarkable, as my former TLs and my RDX seemed to be always going in. I think I've spent about $300 total on maintaining this car so far. It's totally light on the wallet with regards to service.
I think the dealer said that he was using Mobil 1 for oil last time I went in.

^^i doubt the fact that you have mobil 1 in the engine influences your MID. your car doesn't know the difference between synthetic or dino. your MID is dictated by how you drive, the conditions in which you drive and a number of other facters which the car calculates. naturally if you drive more highway miles your mileage intervals will be longer 7-8K miles between oil changes. drive more in town...it'll be 4-5K mi between service intervals.
