Paint Sealant/Protectant

Hi guys,

I am waiting the arrival of my 2010 TSX. I was into the dealership today and the business manager was going over some of the options I have for protecting my purchase.

Aside from the extended warranty coverage and undercoating, one of the things he mentioned was a paint sealant/protectant that they put on the car. It's $349 (Canadian) and guaranteed for 5 years.

I will be purchasing a black car, so I just wanted to see if anyone has purchased this and/or has any opinions on it. He said it would help keep the shine much longer, prevent scratches/"swirl lines" that can easily been seen on black cars, as well as help prevent the paint from fading and even chipping from rocks/salt/sand.

Any help would be great!

Zaino is show car materials and doesn't protect your car from daily driving, but the simonize equivlant you're speaking of is not worth the money, I got it and I still had scratches etc. and they have so many clauses in there warranty that it is void in any realistic situation.. Also your car already has rust proofing undercoating there is no reason to pay for it, for they're not going to do anything just take your car and give it back to you

yeh def pass on that one - it is simply wax that they upcharge! Your better off having a professional wax your car by detailing or do it yourself

My sister is waiting for '10 Base.

I would pass, take a took at eShine for your detailing kits or like what others said, Zaino. I use this and also Meguiar's.

Unless they are including a 3M Film Hood Protector, stone chips are hard to prevent. LOL

Absolutely pass on that. That's too much money for a sealant in my opinion. Also, no sealant on earth is going to prevent scratches/swirls if proper washing techniques are not used. And trying to say a sealant is going to prevent chipping from rocks/salt/sand is downright hilarious.

The other problem with dealer-applied sealants is that even if they were the miracle they're sold as, the dealer detailers don't properly prep the surface anyway. Their buffer jockeys nearly ALWAYS apply buffer trails and swirls in the process of 'detailing' cars, and a sealant would only seal in the damage.

Get some good polish and sealant and take care of your paint yourself for much less. Good results can be had at home:

Here's a shot of our '10 TSX - on the right is how the dealer delivered the finish, on the left is after I polished out part of the panel:

Here's a couple shots of the car after I polished out the damage and sealed the paint:
