Opinions of mobil1 synthetic oil for your TSX

I would like to see anybody's opinions regarding using mobil1 synthetic oil. My car is 12500 miles now, I am thinking to switch to mobil1 synthetic oil for next oil change.
My concern is once i use synthetic oil can i switch back to regular one?
Dose anyone feel any difference after switch to synthetic? I mean car feel more smooth and maybe more power or somthing esle. Thanks.

I've switched to synthetic in my other cars, but did not experience any difference in engine performance (or could feel any difference at least). I've heard if you switch to synthetic, you should not switch back, but I have not seen any actual hard data (just anecdotal statements on various internet forums).

The theory is that synthetics do better under high heat conditions, as regular oil tends to break down. Since our cars are rev-happy cars, synthetic should help in that area.

That's the theory, anyway. I switched to Mobil1 after my second oil change and haven't noticed anything. It's not like I would be able to corroborate the theory in any way anyway, being the layperson that I am. And even if I could, there are so many variables it would be rather pointless.

There's no problem switching to synthetic, and back to dino, or mixing them together.

But, just FYI, Mobil1 is not a FULL synthetic oil.

So you're saying that Mobil 1 is misleading the public with false advertising? The label on the front of every bottle of Mobil 1 oil says "Fully Synthetic Motor Oil". http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...le_Labels.aspx

what's in contention is what makes an oil fully synthetic. there are many "fully synthetic" oils on the market that are made from petroleum stock, ie, the stuff dino oil comes from. however, these oils are processed and what not differently, and more artificially than dyno oil, so they are marketed as synthetic.

i don't know all the facts about this, but google it and you'll find out what people are saying.

I also am not an expert by any means. I have used Mobil 1 in all my cars since 1986.
Started with a 4 cyl. Pontiac Grand Am, 135,000 on it when I sold it. Used lees than 1/2 qt between 5000 mile oil changes.
1991 Maxima, over 150,000 when I sold it. Never used a drop between changes
1996 Maxima, ditto...
2001 CL-S, 218,000 on the clock , my daily driver. Less than 1/2 qt between changes.
2010 TSX, 25,000 miles, so far so good, nothing used between changes.
So I continue to use it.

I put Valvoline synthetic in my 2006 TSX and can't notice much of a difference. But I live in a very hot climate and for a few extra bucks I wanted a little more protection.

For way more than you ever wanted to know about oil and filters... visit

Excellent combination and one I would recommend as well. You can get the Purolator filters pretty cheap on Amazon.

Purolator filters are pretty good and you can get them for a great price, plus I think Mobil 1 is an excellent oil for the price. Used the combo in my previous Civic with virtually zero engine wear (based on oil analysis at Blackstone) with 8,000-9,000 OCI's which I sold after 84,000 virtually trouble free miles.

Many people have done tests on oil filters.
Prue 1 is one of the higher rated filters due to filtration material used inside, and construction.

I've gone with synthetic from my first oil change on my TSX and my now retired '91 Stealth RT/TT. Very good results so far. Engine seems happier. And I'm not as concerned with driving it harder.

Been using Mobil synthetic products in my last two cars. One a 2003 Jetta Diesel and one we still have, a 2001 Odyssey. Consider the diesel, talk about hard duty for oil and 10,000 OCI's on top of that. We sold at 125k and ran like a top. The Odyssey has been using Mobil 1 5W20 for ages and I wouldn't go back. Engine runs awesome, fuel mileage is great (21 combined, 26 highway). I currently run about 8k OCI's on the van since it is mostly in town driving.

There are certainly other great oils out there (synth and regular) but I have been very happy with Mobil 1 and won't switch back to anything else.

Plan to use the same on the 2010 TSX.

5 quarts of mobil 1 + a filter can be purchased at autozone every couple months for like $24.99 total...can't go wrong with that!

the TSX isn't a race car and most people won't be living at 6,000+ RPM, so honestly, any oil will probably be fine if you change it every 5-7,000 miles in normal conditions.
