16 y.o.= 5 yr old used civic. honestly, no teenager (unless by some weird trust fund they have) should be driving a shiny new car since they are bound to treat it poorly, bump into things, crash it, or whatever. i say let her go beat on a civic for the rest of HS and through college, and let her buy her next fancy car on her own. a civic will be cheaper and cheaper to insure and she'll probably appreciate it more.
however, it's your bank account and you can spend it on your child any which way you want. you certainly won't do her any favors by not making her earn it the old fashioned way. just my 2 cents.

As for the car, seems like a okay deal, but was it a dealer loaner? If thats the case I wouldn't buy it cuz a lot of the time those cars are abused.

if its a dealer loaner car, it beaten up like crazy. i know i did not care for my loaners at all. but from the pics the seats look totally fine. the loaners i was in, the seats had creases in them and all. comes with a trunk tray too so that's good.
i'd get the story behind the car first though...

Must be nice, want to adopt an adult daughter? LOL.
My 1st car was a freakin cavalier. I was told here's 5 grand, get what u want. Then as i picked out what i wanted, nice & flashy...my dad told me, what are you crazy? Ur going to kill yourself in that car. You are not supposed to get a car u like for ur first car and wouldn't hand over the dough until i picked out a "safe " car. i.e. one that topped out at like 75mph LoL

16 yo girl? How about a Jetta or a Scion tc? But props to you sir for thinking outside the box and considering a TSX. When I was 16, I had an ex police interceptor beater that I drove for 6 months before giving up the ghost.

Professor, its your money, your family, your daughter. If shes responsible and deserves to be driving a CU2, I say go for it!
I really dont think young drivers with new cars is that out of this world anymore...its pretty common actually I think.

Dealer took title while in inventory. It was a loaner and/or dealer car. But it's CPO'd and if the price is right, then why not. Go look at it and have a ppi done by an Indy (even if it's a CPO) and also by a body shop tech. Then decide.

I agree with the above posters. When I first started driving at 16, I got my dad's old work car, which was a 1999 Acura RL. I drove that for a year before I got a new car. Looking back on things, I definitely appreciated not having a new car when I first started driving as some of the things I did were, let's just say, not the smartest or most responsible.

Your first car should not be a new car. Plain & simple. Unless you've been driving for several years and have plenty of experience, you will fuck that car up. Lol
My first car was a 98 Civic HX at the age of 16. Payed all of $1000 for it, with 98k. Still miss that thing.

my first car was a 02 civic, but my parents got me the tsx after i graduated from high school.
i agree with ttk, if she is responsible, study hard, etc, then she deserves a new car. that's why my parents got me one haha
it was great to practice on the civic for the first year or so though, so she gets more experience and won't do anything stupid with the new car

I did all that, I studied hard--full ride to college, deserved a new car so when I graduated High School my parents got me a brand spanking new Bimmer 3 series--- needless to say it was totaled by my sophomore year in college--- car accident police report said not my fault but it was one of those things if I was more experienced I could have avoided
She might be deserving but I'm warning you nothing beats experience when it comes to driving--- she needs accumulate enough years behind the wheel to fully understand whats going on around her

^ ed thats a great point. I really believe times have changed though. I know too many people who take care of, appreciate and drive their new car responsibly enough to handle it. Yes there is logic in getting an old school civic for a young teenager first until they learn how to drive optimally and maturely...but situations are always subjective and never the same. If a parent can afford it, and the child is ready to and deserves the privilege and luxury, why not? A tsx is way more comfortable than a POS civic and I know I would always want the best for my kid. That being said, I also see hundreds of undeserving, unappreciative, spoiled douchebags driving expensive ass cars like its rental. Crash it, get a new one and carry on.

Listen, saftey is key! My oldest is 7, and i plan on getting him a tank in a few years LOL. While my parents had a point about you never get a first car u love (bc lets face it, im guessing more than a few of us wrecked our first car- myself included lol) ppl on the road get crazier and crazier. Its like i tell my husband, its not ur driving im worried about, i know u can drive-- its every1 else on the road who scares the living daylights out of me lol.
Just be prepared spending so much $$ & don't get mad if god forbid that car is totaled in a year or 2, we've all done it and as long as she is safe thats all that matters

nu zayets... hahaha, personally, i dont care if the original founders of acura came and said take this ex-loaner, we guarantee it, i would never trust it. my 2010 TSX was my first car, got it at 17. i gave my parents a lil over $12K cash for it, they pay for insurance and the like. i know people who got cars worth 50K+ as their first car, and it got totalled. the car will never be what matters. if professor trusts that he raised his daughter right, and taught her how to drive, i don't feel that the TSX is a bad choice. PS: im 19, can i have pics ;P

Everyday I'm rofling
You would rather an old car that you have to dump money into to keep it running over a brand new TSX? Is it because you wouldnt have to worry about door dings or minor fender benders?

Get her a 10 year old Accord or Camry. Have her pay the insurance.

I started with a 99 corolla, appreciated the shit out of it, and graduated into the TSX after 2 years and a good chunk of my own savings combined with parents money.
Im very glad i had that corolla, it was a great learning experience

And hey, not all of us who grew up in Greenwich were spoiled with fancy rides in high school! I got a rusting '76 Buick Skylark when my dad started the Honda tradition with his '83 Accord. Some kids did get BMW's and the like though, and the place has only gotten more exclusive since the 1980's, so there are probably even more in the GHS parking lot these days.
