oil change
#2
I did my 1st oil change when the car's MID showing "service due soon (A)". Which was 15% oil life. It was at 2989 miles and that's 8 months after I bought the car. Took it to the dealer and paid $43.5 ($39.95+tax)
Now is my 11th month and I am up to around 3500 miles. I've been driving everyday in NYC. And that's 90% city driving. Getting only 15-16 mpg. But I am happy with the cost of maintenance with this car

We used to do the every 3,000 mile oil change for many years. Now follow the maintenance minder on the tsx. Wait until the oil life gets to 15% to get the code that shows what service needs to done. We get between 6,500-7,000 miles. (mostly highway)

^change it when it gets to >15%...
the MID takes in account for Engine revs, idling, and some other factors.
so, if you drive all highway without ever hitting vtec, the MID will increment slower.
all city and constantly hitting vtec will net a faster oil change interval.
the MID does not take in account for what kind of oil is in the car.

I drive 95% highway and get close to 12k out of each oil change following the MID. Just be carefully because at the long of duration, the car definitely burns oil. In that span I typically have to add 2-3 quarts, which the dealer is calling normal consumption and within acceptable parameters - 1 qt/3k (no leaks or smoke). I've confirmed this with my cousin who is experiencing the same thing.
Right now I have 75k on the motor and I am starting to change my oil at the 50% mark due to the reasons above, for my own piece of mind.

^it depends on his driving style. He said he drives 95% hwy, but if he happened to be driving that 5% city and started revving his engine into vtec, the oil life indicator will significantly decrease.
the MID calculates idle time, engine revs, and some other factors noted in your owners manual.

Just thought I would throw in my experience.
