Observations - spark plugs, pcv, oil consumption

My TSX began running a bit rough and the vtec hasn't been very noticeable, I actually made a post not too long ago regarding verifying the vtec engagement. My TSX has also been consuming little more than a half quart of oil every 1000 miles, currently has about 136,000 miles.

PCV valve, so I decided to replace this since it is suggested to change every 60,000 miles or there abouts. I bought a Standard brand part from a local parts store and while tightening it down I had a sudden feeling like it was stripping the threads. I was using a torque wrench set at 32lbs and backed it down to 25 and had the same feeling again. I backed it out and the threads looked fine, I didn't look at the part real close to see if it showed signs of failing but I put it back in and was barely snugging it and the part broke in half. Amazingly I was able to get the broken half out of the engine with the tip of my pinky finger. I ordered a honda part and only was brave enough to torque it down to about 27lbs, maybe it would survive but I wasn't going to take a chance at breaking off another in the engine. In short do NOT use an off brand PCV valve.

Spark plugs. SO the engine still didn't feel great and decided to take out a Denso iridium plug with less than 11,000 miles, I felt silly even considering they might be bad. The first looked terrible and the white body/insulator part was burnt brown. I put the plug back in and went and got a set of NGK iridium plugs for $15 a piece, probably the most expensive plugs I've bought, and Oh my god are they better. The vtec engagement is much more noticeable and it doesn't hardly feel like the same car.

On oil consumption, I decided to replace about a half quart of oil with marvel mystery oil and put slightly less than the recommended amount in the gas (far as i can tell by loosely estimating amounts in my head) and about 3,000 miles later the car has nearly the same amount of oil it had at the start of the change, I've been checking the oil every 1,000 miles. I've read consumption can be from the silicone coating wearing off, but apparently my rings were sticking.

Interesting finds.
Good tip on the PCV valve. Now I am paranoid and going to track down the source of the one I just got.
I just got some Liqui Moly oil additive that was recommended to me. I hope it does the same for me as the marvel mystery oil did for you.

I'm usually not picky about using OEM parts, but if the PCV valve is not in a honda baggy I wouldn't use it.

If the rings are stuck marvel mystery oil helps because it has solvents, I don't know anything about Liqui Moly oil.
