New Ride

About 2 months ago, I sold my '09 TSX Tech and purchased a 2012 VW Passat 3.6 SEL Premium. After nothing but headache with the car (I took it in for different repair issues 4 times in 6 weeks!) and absolutely HORRIBLE customer service from VW, I sold it back to VW. I took a small hit on the price but not too bad. Last night, I purchased a 2012 TSX Tech (Bellanova White w/ Parchment interior). I have to say that I'm happy to be back into the Acura "family" again.

Congrats on the new TSX. I am shocked however, that the VW only lasted 6 weeks, that must be a new record. I was actually deciding between the 2011 Jetta TDI wagon and the TSX wagon and passed over the VW for the very same reasons - crappy customer service and questionable quality and reliability. Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the new purchase.

You couldn't give me a VW or Audi, I've seen so many horror stories like this I couldn't begin to tell you. Welcome back.

Welcome back! I'm glad you got rid of VW asap. Like many others, VWs are crap. German cars are not really reliable and they cost a fortune to fix. I used to own a 2003 E46 coupe and for the first year, everything was fine. About 1 1/2 - 2 years later, things started to happen. The upholstery began to deteriorate, the sunroof couldn't close creating a loud clacking noise, and the transmission started slipping (eventually it blew). All of that would have cost me anywhere from 5k-10k. Great choice in switching back to Honda.

I had an 02 330ci for a very brief period, the dashboard looked like a Christmas tree, every color in the spectrum was on.

No one believes this, but when you turned the radio knob to lower the volume, it went up.

Oh, also, a thunderclap opened the sunroof. YAY!

Never again.

Ouch! So much for good quality coming from American workers in Chattanooga where that Passat was built? The only cars I've had more of than Acuras/Hondas are VW's. Absolutely excellent road cars. Definitely durable. Reliable if you take care of them as the MILLIONS of VW owners across the globe can attest to.

That stinks that they can't get VW's made in America to work out. They tried this in the 70s/80s too and it didn't work. I hope for our sake in the U.S. yours was just a lemon.

The only lemon I ever had was an 07 TSX, but I figured it was a fluke so gave it another shot in 2011. My 2011 TSX (commuter car) has been great so far if you don't count the ignition key not retracting all the time (have to use a knife to get it out).

Glad you are once again happy!

Interesting point. I had a 1997 Golf that was mostly issue free. Parts were expensive, but if you DIY, it wasn't bad at all. My wife had a 2001 Passat that was a little worse in terms of maintenance (more minor issues, more expensive parts, crazy labor costs) over the 5 years we owned it, but it was worth nothing after 5 years of low mileage driving and no dealer would take it for a decent trade-in. Both cars were awesome when running right for sure.

I had a 94 Golf and and 99 Passat. While I do love VWs, I can't afford to drive them. Money is one thing but it's a pain in the neck to have to continuously take your car back to the shop.

The only times I had driven a VW Beetle were when either my Golf or Passat was in the shop. Let's see. I have driven at least three: a yellow one, a dark blue one and a bathroom green one.

Good to see I made the right choice with the Acura. We looked at the Jetta Sportwagon TDI, but only briefly. My previous experience with VW was not pleasant (exactly what you cite -- just horrible customer service and pretty bad reliability). Loved the car, but just couldn't live with it or the dealers (all THREE of them that I went to for service and maintenance). A lot of my friends say I'm insane for continuing to talk about the quality issues and customer service of VW, that they have no idea what I'm talking about, but stories like this are all over the internets. I'd love to see them get these issues under control, because their cars are pretty awesome when they work right -- or, at least they were before they started giving us the cheap NA-market-only stuff.

THE main reason I chose my first Acura last month is because the only time I want to see the dealer or indie in the next five to ten years is for maintenance.

I had a Jetta before my TSX. Nothing but issues soon after I got it. The choice was easy enough for me. Welcome back to the family.
