New Member - Question about OEM 18" wheels

New member here, I am looking to purchase a 2010 TSX -Tech Package - 6MT by the end of the month. I have already negotiated the price from an MSRP of $33,310 to $30,620. I do plan on getting the sport bumper kit as well as the "18 inch Ebony Look Alloy Wheels". I noticed that you have to also include the set of new $899 tires. Does anyone know if those tires are all season or if they are summer only?

Thanks

The factory recommends a Yokohama Advan Sports-225/45ZR18 95Y V103 tire for that wheel, whether that is the tire your particular Acura dealership installs is a different story.

That tire is categorized as an "ultra high performance tire" and If my memory is correct it is strictly a summer tire.

This may not be an issue for you in reality as if you buy the accessory rims, you still get to keep the stock rims and tires. So in the summertime, you rock the 18" with the UHP tire and in the winter (if it snows where you live) you switch back to the stockies with all seasons.

For the money I would stay away from the 18" accessory wheels. The wide body of the 2G TSX calls for 19" if not 20" wheels.

There are some 18" aftermarket wheel that looks good but if you are paying $2,224 for 4 Acura wheels plus $899 for tyres= $3123, there are a lot of alternatives out there including some very nice RonJons for the same price or less.

Great advice...but I was planning on leasing the car and wanted to get all the options included in the price

^Ah, I see.

Why not try to get a set of 19" RDX accessories rims (which has same bolt pattern and an offset of ET45 instead of stock ET55). The offset means the wheel will be more flushed to the outside which make a more aggressive stance. I believed the price is the same, you will need different TPMS for those wheels.

If you live in a warmer climate (CA/FL etc), then ask the dealer if you can just have the accessory wheel instead of the stock 17", the price difference hopefully will be minimal.

This is a bad financial decision and I'll try to explain why. When you lease you are buying a portion of the vehicles value. When you add the 18" accessory rim at a price of $3100 you are buying the whole thing. Essentially take the cost of the accessory you are adding and divide it by 35, what ever that number is it's a little lower than how much your lease payment is going to go up each month. So by adding the 18" accessory rims to your TSX lease you will be paying about $100 more per month than if you went without them.

Long story short, accessories on leases have a dramatic affect on the lease payment as the majority of them are not residualised.

You are better off buying aftermarket rims seperately so you can sell them seperately is 3 years and recover some of the cost.

I have the 18" ebony wheels and think they are worth the price. I was negotiating between two dealers (May 2010) and got the wheels for $1300 (without tires) as Acura was offering a deal at the time.

The recommended tires are summer tires, but you can ask the dealer to put whatever you want on them. I asked for high performance all seasons and they got them for me instead.

Also, you do get to keep the original wheels and tires so you could use them as a winter set if y ou wanted.

I can't seem to figure out how to upload the image. Is there an easy way to do it?

Thanks, Ed.

The quality stinks because it came off my cell phone camera. I'll take a real camera pic and post it when I get the chance. There are other threads with the 18" wheel from other cars where the quality is better, though.
