Question New car, new questions (cleaning, clear bra, tint, radio, recs.)

First, meet my new toy. (Much better photo to come this weekend.)

I just had some beginner car owner questions

1) Cleaning. What's the best way to do spot cleaning? Carry a towel and water bottle in the trunk for the usual bird crap and wet spots? How do you clean the interior leather - also water and towel, or get leather cleaner? Any recommended "cheap but works" stuff to get?

2) Tinting. Should I tint the rear more than the front? Anyone have any experience as to how that looks on a black car? What % visibility do you recommend (friend recommends 40%.) What kind of tint is recommended ( there are different kinds??), and does anyone know a good place in LA to get them done? About how much should it cost?

3) Clear Bra. How long do they usually last? A friend recommended: 'xpel' paint protection film
Anyone know a good place in LA to get this done? About how much should it cost? (The link above has the bra itself costing $459).

4)Radio. Has anyone kept their Sirius XM subscription? Is the Acura TSX radio A La Carte capable?

Thanks all!

1) cleaning just take care of it the best you can.
2) I just my car tinted today. Use formula one tint, cuz the dye film is guarantee to never fade. i paid $220 for it.
3) get a clear bra its so worth it.
4) get xm only if ur commute is long

Check out the Wash & Wax section of this website. Tons of advice, and you have the luck of starting with a swirl-free car

Congrats on the pickup!

Cool Cool..

TSX looks nice. And yes, clear bras are expensive ... but worth it if you drive in high traffic areas on a daily basis.

The only reason I have xm is because I drive from NC to NJ and back every few weeks. Otherwise I do not think it is worth it now with the music royality fees and the commercials.

I carry microfiber towels and Meguire Quick Detailer bottle (the one that is used to wet/lubricate the car when you clay bar a car).

As for the interior, you should use a leather cleaner so that it can moisturize your leather. You don't want it to dry out and crack.

This depends on you. Some people prefer an even look, while others do the uneven look (rear tinted more than the front) so that cops will hopefully not bother them.

If you have an ebony interior, the tint will look darker than if you had the parchment interior.

The percentage tint is up to you. I have 20%, and while I can see perfectly fine through it, I think it looks too dark from the outside. I have an ebony interior, so I probably should have gone 35%. I have a CGP car though...with your black car, maybe you'd prefer the 20%.

There are 3 types of tint: dyed, metallic, and ceramic. If you have a navigation system, your rear windshield needs to be tinted with either dyed or ceramic tint so that it doesn't mess with your gps signals. The side windows can have metallic tint. Dyed is the cheapest and, in the past, was known to fade to purple and bubble. Ceramic is the most expensive. I got ceramic all around (for maximum heat rejection), and it cost $400 at the time. I got it done by a shop that Galpin Ford in Van Nuys/Panorama City uses.

If you tint your car, be sure to inquire about moleskin. It's a felt that protects your tint from your acura TSX ;-)

There are a few places to get it done. I didn't go this route since they don't cover the entire hood, and I figure it'll look dumb with half of the hood messed up (eventually).

Some of us have kept it, including me. If you look at the XM thread, you can keep it for $77/year ($6.42 per month). However, that's without the traffic. Basically if you call before the subscription ends to cancel your subscription, they'll offer you the "one-time" special pricing. I have only paid $77 per year for the last 5 years.

Call me what you want, but I know I'm a hard worker. I know that everything I have, I've earned it or am trying to earn it, and I know how to appreciate things because I'm a hard worker. If my age wasn't on the side, I'm sure you wouldn't know I was 16. You don't know my story. I mean, you think my parents just HANDED over my TSX on a silver platter? Please. If forums don't have a community behind them, then it's just informative, what fun is that? Can't we have fun and be informative at the same time? Didn't know we couldn't.

KillerG, see you on the other side man, going to the nearest bridge cuz I have a sense of humor, and apparently there's no room for fun people in this world.

Okay Echo, I would like to point out that you instigated this one, Killer's post was both informative and entertaining at the same time. I don't see anything wrong with this post, yet you came out and attacked him on this one. I mean, he put "Also, I love boobies" but he was informative in his previous post, he probably just forgot to add that part.

You said "being informative and funny at the same time is not the problem" yet you attacked Killer on doing just that.

You have just been contradicted.

bro you have like 30 posts and have been lurking on acurazine for 4 years. has it really been bothering you THAT much? Is it not ok to play around a bit as long as we get the relevant information along?

Believe me, acurazine is a lot more fun if you try not to take it too seriously. We all bring something interesting to the table

Not to "thread jack" but anyone know a place in the Boston/MetroWest area to get a clear bra? Don't recommend Victoria Secret, they don't fit.

I plan to do front bumper only (already a huge piece), I don't think I need it for the hood and mirrors. This is my highest priority, and I want to find a place that does it soon.

Any referrals for clear bra in LA?

Here's another pic, this time a night shot, with me and the car:

My boss has gone there, and so has my brother. I noticed this morning that they do clear bras, so you might want to check it out. When my boss was picking up his car they were working on Akon's Lamborghini, so they do great work.

I'm going to get my windows tinted from there hopefully next week.
