Might be changing my mind here... need opinions

So I have a deposit down on the 09 TSX w/ Technology package, but...

1. The dealership has basically told me they want sticker (which I am unwilling to do)
2. The car with tech and body kit will probably run me around $34k+

I was in the dealership yesterday to inquire (just for fun) about a 2008 TL type S... and the guy goes... now that we can make a deal on!

So... I am looking at a TSX w/ tech for around 34 or a TL type S for 35 or 36 w/ body kit.

Only major difference in technology are XM Weather & USB for ipod (08 TLS only has Aux plug)

But all in all 2k difference seems worth it for all that extra HP...

I NEED OPINIONS... Maybe talk me out of it or agree...

thanks for the help!

Tough choice. Not sure what I'd do. The power of the TL is very enticing, though. I'd wait till you see the TSX in person and go from there.

Oh and also according to Acura the TL-S only gets 1mpg worse than the new TSX... personally I think thats impossible if you are accelerating fast all the time... but its not drastically different either way.

sounds like you guys all are leaning with me.

It really isn't drastically different. Moving to the TL-S from my TSX, in 90%+ city only driving, I have seen a difference of around 1 mpg which literally is a difference of about 20 miles in range per tank of gas, and that was before break-in. I suspect that with a light foot, the TL-S will actually come pretty close to matching the mileage I was getting from the TSX in city driving.

Highway driving may be a whole different story though, but I haven't driven enough of that lately to be able to provide any real data.

Yep. No contest. I love the seats in the TL-S.

My better half really likes the TSX, but unless we can get a Tech model for around $31k (will be buying around Christmas of this year), we'll likely go with something else. It's not that I think the TSX is overpriced, I just have issues with paying MSRP for a vehicle unless it's a limited production model or a vehicle in high-demand.

Just to clarify, the difference is a bit more than 1mpg, especially on Automatic models.

TL-S:

Automatic
17/26

Manual
18/27

TSX:

Automatic
21/30

Manual
20/28

I really love the 09 TSX from what I've seen but based on the deals they are giving on the TL-S, I really just can't see anyone buying a 200 HP car when they could get something that is just as good with M3 power (2005 M3 not the new one) for a little bit more.

I think my decision is made... black on black w/ black tints.

no question, hands down, no competition, TL-S.

I'd tell the dealer to shove his new TSX and drive home tomorrow in a TL-S.

You'd never regret it!

If you are not needing to replace right now, I would wait to see what is in store for the future of the TSX. Maybe the next model year, the rumors of a type S TSX will come true....maybe a little improved styling....maybe that's why they made one that looks like a pile of shit for the new generation at the beginning

It would make the improved sub-model (type S, or whatever it may be if they in fact make another sub-model) look amazing...

TL-S. I believe normally they go for $38k. Now you get the kit as well as $2-3k back in your pocket, that sounds like a good deal to me. May be you can get a further discount too by telling him the 2009 TL is coming soon and the 2008 TL-S will depreciate fast within a year.

By the way, get the 6MT if possible, you will love its power and handling.

CGTSX2004, the TL really shines in fuel economy on the highway, don't be surprised if you see 30mpg on the highway.

TL-S no question...2X better car.
I'm still kinda for the 09 tsx.
I don't even know if I'd take a 09 tsx over an 08 tsx...but just my opinion.

My friend has a 08 TL-S auto he was getting 30 mpg on highway.
My fiancee and I took our 07 tsx to Pittsburgh last weekend. We were getting 33 mpg.
I would take the TL-S in a hearbeat.

Plus the fact the 09 tsx is going to have alot of bugs just like the 04's did.

On manual-equipped models I agree, but on automatic-equipped models the difference is nearly 20%. I'd call that a significant difference, but then again, the TL makes a LOT more horsepower/torque.

I really believe that if you drive a TLS so as to enjoy the 85 hp difference, the MPG won't be very close. Which begs the question, why would you buy such a car to drive it like a granny just to get mileage?

Lastly, and this is just my opinion, but I really hate the clutch take up on the V-6 cars. There is no feel and the engagement point is too narrow and too high in the travel.

I agree with you about the not driving like a granny... but, I feel that it is a relative difference since I accelerate quickly in the TSX too... so, I'm getting a bit worse mileage now than I "could" be getting.

See what I mean?

I hear you, but I'm not sure I made myself clear. I believe that even if driven the same, the difference is not necessarily relative.

In a straight line, the TL-S. On a winding road, the TSX.

The TL-S is definately a better value after the discount, but the reason it's discounted is because it's becoming an older car and a newer version will be sharing the roads soon so you might look at used first and save up to several thousand dollars. If I had to do over again I'd have looked at used '06 TSXs rather than plop down for a new '07.

When you're in busy traffic and unable to drive with spirit it's nice to know you're not needlessly wasting fuel.

It is a good suggestion, but I can't see myself buying a used TL type S 6speed... I would just be too afraid it was dogged.

Honestly, though, I hadn't driven the TSX that hard in a long time and my driving style in the TL-S hasn't changed at all. The urge to go fast is definitely there and I have had a change to use the TL-S's prodigious power to blow by someone pulling some idiot move on the road, but those short bursts don't seem to detract too substantially from the fuel mileage.

Though with the Miata at home, not having the TSX is not nearly as painful as expected.

TL's have been on the road long enough to get an idea of how well they're holding up through 100k miles, I haven't looked that the reliability reports but they're out there somewhere.

Unless you plan on tracking the car (there are better cars to track anyway), get the TL-S over the TSX. Paying MSRP for an 09 TSX is retarded, there's no way demand will be that high for long imho..

Wink Timing

Do you need the car right now? Can you wait until they start discounting the TSX?

Personally if you like both equally, I would get the TSX bc it is brand new & you can enjoy it for the full 5 year life span. On the other hand, the TL is on it's 5th & final year ... if the new one debuts in the fall & is much better than the current, you may regret getting it.

Actually the TL-S is a great track car. It has beaten G35S and IS350 on WillowSprings by 2 seconds.

Haha... yeah I did that too, but I am a current TSX owner and I seriously have a deposit on an 09... well not as of tonight cause I am buying the TL type S tomorrow for just about the same price as the 09 TSX...

I would have probably stayed with the TSX but honestly at the close to the same price it just can't compare.
