How about the BMW 1 series with the M Sport Pkg? MSRP is low 40s fully loaded with a twin turbo 6. Saw one in person at the stealership and it looked very sharp.

OP has 2 yong kids.. 1 series is a neat car, but is a tight 2-door.

Darn, I wanted to recommend the CTS wagon for 39k MSRP- that should meet your performance requirements! The kids would like the ride too! But seriously, you will like the TSX if you wind up going that route. I think the CTS-V would be a blast but that is double the price.

Well I thought I had my mind made up, but I think backseat room is a showstopper for a tall driver like myself who puts the seat most the way back. Attached is a pic of my son`s foot room in my spacious Maxima. He would lose probably 2-3 inches on the TSX. Damn!!!
