Question Lowbeam HIDs as DRL?

Like others, I don't like the halogen DRL on our cars. I'm thinking of running indepedent HID fogs, and pulling the DRL fuse.

Other option is to wire the current lowbeam HIDs so they are on all the time, and still have the 'Auto' lights work. Is this possible?

Thanks!!

Just manually turn your headlights on and off during the day and pull DRL fuse. Save yourself a big headache and tons of time.

there's an option for you to have your hid low beams on all the time. it's called "on". and if they're on all the time...that defeats the purpose of "auto"

Sorry guys, I haven't picked up my car yet, not for a few days. So just doing some research now.

I thought with 'on', all lights will be on, sidemarkers, tail lights etc. I just wanted to have the lowbeams on all the time.

that would involve lots of fun rewiring and a new switch. its either all or nothing

i still don't get why you'd want JUST the low beams on and nothing else. but yea you'll have lots of rewiring to do and probably have to add in another switch. imo, not worth it.

simple. add a diode on each side so you can have 2 power sources for the lowbeams. add relay and switch for the power and control/

cost about 25 buck for parts. some labor will be involved.

I have not installed yet but I am making a seperate power source for the fogs so I can run them independent of ALL other lights.

What's wrong with the OE DRL's? And who are the "others"? And.... who cares what they look like if they do the job? I mean they're like, lights, ya know? Sorry, I'm confused.

I thought the DRLs were nothing more than then high beams running on low power ?. If you pull the fuse, won't that disable the high beams ?. Or is it 2 separate circuits ?.

2 seperate fuses and it doesn't cause a code. but they are a safety feature.

Personally, I'd just put some LEDs in your DRLs.

When I had my 2G TL, I always drove with my HIDs on. I eventually had ballast/igniter problems. OEM replacement parts are expensive. It's not worth the wear and tear.

What does the fact that it's rented have to do with it? Plus, I'm pretty sure that a used up headlight would be a wear and tear item (as opposed to warranty).

seems like a lot of work for basically nothing.

theyre just DRLs. i mean, you can replace the bulbs to make them look less yellow (or more yellow if thats your thing) but thats a lot of rewiring just to have your low beams and nothing else on when you can just have your lights on all the time and basicaly get the same results + parking lights.

thinking of just making my fogs DRL that are on all the time when the car is on day or night....but waiting on my 30W LED DRL bulbs to see how they work, I don't like losing the hibeams (as such on current 25w LEDs).

ya. i had the standard LED DRLs for a while but needed high beams once i moved to the country. replaced them with stock bulbs for now but i think i may go hyper yellow or arctic white like my fogs.

the stock DRLs are just soo dull. ick

The first thing I did when I got home from picking up new car from dealer was to pull the 7.5 amp fuse for DRL. No code and high beams work, auto feature works. You can add HID,s to high beams. Unless you live north of the boarder you dont need DRL. Some people are adding LEDs to their lights to match some of the new models out on market. As some have said above you will need to rewire to do that. JMO Good luck
