Koni yellows on a 2G TSX

Hi all, so I I’m looking to replace my struts and shocks from the stock ones that have taken a major beating from the winter here in St.Louis. IYKYK. I’ve really been looking into the koni yellows paired with some EIBach springs after reading Stan’s review about them on here 12 ish years ago. I’m looking for an OE-like ride but maybe a little more sporty, and maybe a 1 Inch drop, max 1 1/2. Im not really looking into coils just because I’ve heard it’s pretty expensive to get the ride I want with them and with that height but I very well could be wrong. Only set I’ve dealt with was some truharts on my 09 accord so not the best example. So if anyone has the konis paired with a lowering spring I would appreciate the feedback very much!!! Thanks!

Searching on this forum is an art, it's best done on Google if i'm being honest, just add "site:acurazine.com" to whatever your query is

Currently on my car. The Eibachs are rubbish! Replaced them with Swift, what a world of difference. Firm ride without harshness. I had to make some perch adapters to make the Swift work with the GC adjusting nut. The Koni yellows are set at midway on the ride control valve.

My car is set up with about a 1" drop from stock on these coil overs.

Koni Yellow x RSR Down Sus Springs on Wagon

Subtle drop: 0.8 front and 0.6 rear
1 finger gap between my tire and fender

Strongly recommend Koni shocks! You can adjust the dampening settings easily just by turning the knob on top.

I didn’t know swift made springs for our cars! That’s another option then. Would you say they are significantly better than stock shocks? Also how many miles do you have on this set up? Thanks!

^ Those Swift and Eibach springs are not specific to the TSX or any other car. They're flat bottom universal race springs. He is using GC sleeve adjusters. This is not a lowering spring setup.

@evo9 , what spring rates did you choose for the Swift, and were they different rates from the Eibach springs you tried?

It would be surprising if the Swifts made a world of difference by themselves. I'm guessing you changed rates and also ride heights when you went Swift?

Koni Yellows are stock length. So even a mild drop will put them onto or close to the bumpstop. I would not lower the car much more than about 0.75"...*maybe* 1" on Koni Yellows for street use.

Their damping is strong, but you want to give them room to travel. They're not shortened or optimized for travel as compared to stock.

Agree, these springs are not specific to the TSX. As for the spring rate, 500 front & 250 rear, was he same with Eibach. Just look at the two springs in the picture and you will see why the Swift rides better. Color has nothing to do with it LOL!!!

I bought the ground control coil over kit for my TSX, it came with Eibach springs. No matter where I adjust the Koni shocks valve or the GC sleeves the car rides like skate boarding on a rough pavement. I've always heard very good reviews on Swift springs. So looking thru their catalog I found almost the Identical specs to the Eibach. I ordered them and made some perch adaptors so they fit more snug with the GC adjusting nut. The Swift have a very true 63.5mm ID where the Eibach was more 62.5mm. I have been running them now for over 2 years. In comparison to stock, the car now have a firm and controllable ride. It does not bounce like it use to with the stock shocks over expansion joints or on wavy road surface. Simply put, it corners like on rails and hugs the road without slamming my car like others do.

I like the ground control setup. Do they actually have a part number for the CU/CW TSX, or did you just size out sleeves and springs to fit?

500 and 250 are the "right" spring rates, IMO, for lowering this car too.

Disregard that I'm an Eibach fanboii, but I find it strange that the Swifts made such a profound difference for you. But hey, if it works, it works.

Nice setup!

The drop is great too.

I called GC to inquire about the 2 Gen TSX and was told the Accord kit works. I cant remember what year Accord they said. What they sent me was completely wrong! I emailed them pictures and measurements and was sent the right kit.

My advice to OP's original question is...Koni yellows are a really nice shock

I would advise not lowering them more than 1" of ride height since they are the same length as stock.

Find a lowering spring that achieves that, or do a ground control setup to convert them to an adjustable coilover.

Option B is to buy Tein Street Advance Z and set them to their tallest height/close to tallest height. Turn the perches all the way upward. That should result in a 0.5" to 1" drop if you have a sedan. You can always tweak the ride height from there, but my advice is to not lower them more than 1".

To do it properly, its going to take a lot of effort for more than a 1" drop.
