Introduction. New owner of a 2012 Sport Wagon

Hi, I'm Dave. I'd like to introduce myself to the forum as the new owner of a 2012 TSX Sport Wagon. I've been wanting one of these for a while and finally pulled the trigger on one with 163k miles. At the time of purchase it was the cheapest TSX Sport Wagon listed in the country. Two days after my purchase one re-listed near me for $1000 less than I paid for mine. In short I love this thing. Unfortunately 7 days after purchase the transmission took a dump. I was driving to the parts store and suddenly heard a loud noise then the transmission would not shift into any gear. Not drive, not reverse, not even park. Actually, when i try to put it into park it makes a grinding noise similar to the sound a manual transmission makes when your synchros are going out. I did find a used transmission out of a 2012 w/78k miles, on eBay. I paid $300 and bought it from LKQ Online. Luckily I live only 35 minutes away from a warehouse and could avoid the $210 freight charge. Install is being quoted around $1000, locally. The ironic thing about this whole situation is I purchased the TSX Wagon specifically to replace my '08 BMW X3 that has become sort of a money pit with about $4000 spent on upkeep since March. Now the X3 is the car that is fully functional because even my NSX needs all coolant hoses replaced and an oil leak that I've yet to trace. Well, great meeting everyone and I hope to get acquainted with the forum.

Cheers,

Welcome. And what a great introduction! The previous owner probably didn't change the transmission fluid often enough, if at all. Good luck with the repairs.

Welcome. I have to do the trans filter change. I have it, just no time. Threads like this should smack some sense into me. Just replaced all 4 ignition coils after having one fail. Car has been pretty rock solid, though we only have 148k on ours.

Got the car back yesterday. All is well so far. The car does shift more smoothly into reverse and drive than when I purchased it. The shop a few blocks from me gave me a great price ($700) on the install if I paid cash. Out the door I paid $1,000 for a 78k miles replacement transmission. Not too bad.
