GOOD GOD I am so glad I got an 08!

The instrument cluster? booooring. The nav system/menus might look more modern, but I hate the new design of the non-touch screen way up out of reach and the knob based system of operating everything from the nav to the radio to the hvac.

The new Accord actually looks more upmarket than the TSX (except for the flat seats and the gauges). Who'd buy a TSX over a V6 Accord Coupe?

The Accord and TSX interiors always had similarities. I actually like the new interior with the MID incorporated into the speedo and the tall center tunnel. I think the controls look a bit more cluttered (always a Honda/Acura plague), and i wish they had kept the metal trim flowing into the doors for the wrap-around style dash.

Alright i guess i overreacted a bit, but the new design of Honda/Acura is much different with the non-touch screen way up top.

After browsing the interior photos on vtec.net, some things are really nice, it's got a lot more cool little things like XM weather, RDS, USB, nice new more practical glovebox design, etc.

Not a fan at all of the guages, looks way too cheap. I love my blue/white glowing guages on my 08. The wheel is starting to look too busy.

$4k for the tech package, that's a lot. Not sure I would pay that much for the nav/upgraded radio. That's a big jump from $2k, and pushes the sticker into the mid 30's.

As usual cars.com's Ian Merrit does a much better job than the manufacturer, and it does look better in black (they aways do). But it's still cheaper-looking than the current interior. The new AT shift knob looks like it needs some help from some of the spam I get, too. I still can't believe the new steering wheel wrap isn't perforated like the current one.

Other detail changes that make it seem cheaper: cupholder cover and surrounding plastic is flat black, not carbon fiber pattern. No leather boot around e-brake. No aluminum around the AT shifter.

I also liked that the driver's side door doesn't have a grab handle on it. It's as if the car is saying "keep your left hand on the steering wheel, doofus". Now there is one. One cost concession to building LHD and RHD versions of the same car, I guess.

The current TSX uses a non-perforated leather steering wheel. I think they changed that for 2007 or 08. Feels more high quality (similar to TLs) than the perf one.

I'm just not feeling this car in any way, shape or fashion.

It's just not for me.

Why buy a TSX now? Why not buy an Accord?
You can get a loaded Accord for under $32,000...
With a big rumbling V6 too...

I think the new TSX is just plain confused.

Likey:

Center console (curvy'ness) and Ipod/phone holder by your knee.
New steering wheel its like the 2008 TL's now
New Navi position, like the new RL and BMW series.
The shift boot(FINALLY!) in the automagic/autotragic Shifter.

Mix feelings:

New gauge
Big dial looking audio control thing.

No likes:

plastic inside door handle
plastic nipple E-brake
tiny bulge shift knob for automagic/autotragic
plastic everywhere.
plastic everywhere..

Hopefully I can make it to Jacob Javit center this weekend to check it out in person.

Really? Acura's press photos of the '08 shows the same wheel as my '06. The perforated part is not all around, it's just on the sides, especially on the big grip nubs at 9 and 2.

I guess I'm harping on this a lot because I really really like the steering wheel on my TSX. And the steering in general, not this computer-controlled electric stuff...

I think I mentioned this before, (no, I know I mentioned it before) but I don't think current TSX buyers are the target audience. Current owners are supposed to aspire to the TL. This car is supposed to capture new buyers to the Acura brand, maybe a Civic buyer moving up, or an older Accord owner.

Anyway. as for the interior. I like it. My grips are minor, and mostly centered on the area around the shifter. there is a bit too much smooth black plastic for my tastes. At our recent car show, I spent a good deal of time looking over the new Accord interior and while nice there are a few things that were much 'lower grade' than we are used to seeing in an Acura. Most noticeably, the top portion of the dash is a slab of hard plastic. Its molded to look like a 'soft touch' material but is hard.

As long as this car keeps the current grade of interior quality, the appearance is suitable for it's price. Has anyone seen pics of the non-navi dash?

I've had EPS since 1999 and I have no complaints. The move to this is certainly due to the Motion Active Steering on the Euro Accord. It also has the benefit of not adding any parasitic drag and is faster responding than the older power steering systems.

From the Press release:

AVAILABLE DEALER INSTALLED ACCESSORIES
INTERIOR

Perforated leather steering wheel
Perforated leather shift knob
Interior trim kit (Dark Metallic)
Steering wheel trim (Titian Silver)
Steering wheel trim (Dark Metallic)
Ashtray
All-season floor mats
Trunk tray
Trunk hooks
Cargo organizer
Advance cargo net

Hopefully the interior trim kit covers all the smooth plastic. I am not crazy about the top piece of the dash that ends at the A pillars, just doesn't seem to flow. Still have to see this car in person though.

The biggest fault for me is Acura now completely ditching the very easy-to-use touch-screen navi in favor of the giant idrive knob interface.

Other things I think are a step back from the current gen TSX:
- No silver accents on the door panels
- No OLED backlit instrument clusters... in favor of traditional analog ones
- No gated shifter
- Buttons galore

The touch screen must (by definition) be close enough to touch. This meant that it had to be low in the dash and you had to take your eyes off the road. The new Navi's are designed to be closer to your line of sight and should be safer to use while driving. This it the reason for the change, IMO Acura needs to trumpet this in their press releases more.

I've used this navi in my mom's 08 MDX, and I personally find it easier and safer to look at the screen when it is up high on the dashboard. The lack of touch controls is not as bad as I thought, the knob control is pretty intuitive

When I went to test drive the new Accord that's what the guy said.
He also said the new interior design is to make people feel less claustrophobic.

It works for some, just not for me.

It'll be fun to watch a bunch of folks here buy them and mod them.
Mods will probably be a bit slow coming at first, but it'll pick up.

I totally get what they're doing with the design.
I can see their vision, I understand. I just don't like it.

no the thing that ticks me off completely about this is the fact that they didnt even bother to redesign the center of the dash aside from minimal variations i dont see why people would be able to tell the the new dash apart form an accord

ladies and gents, let me introduce you to the new 09 acura accord type-tsx

Oh good grief. The cars mentioned cost a liiiiiiitle bit more than a base TSX. None of the non-Navi Acuras use a color display so why should the entry level car feature this.

The flip side is if they DID offer a color display, people would be grumbling that the tech package doesn't offer that much more (they already are).

You are entitled to your opinion, but IMO, this argument doesn't hold water. Sorry.

haha dont need to say sorry
the reason y i said that is because everyone knows TSX competes with A4, 3 series, c class, G37.

well i read it off
http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080319....york-auto-show
"The TSX has been redesigned inside and out to be “more Acura” than ever to continue its appeal in the entry level sports sedan segment setting it up to do battle with the likes of the Audi A4, Infiniti G37, BMW 3 Series"

c class and g37 base has color screen
and remember tech has to improve if the base model improved to colour display then offer MORE for the navi package

Ahhh, an apprentice, my young padowan is, when it comes to reading press releases.......

As with the previous TSX, it will steal sales from these cars, but for the price cannot match them feature for feature. Something has to give, so if we have to give up a color screen to keep it around 30K, so be it.

not too bad. But I really don't like the placement of the display. I test drove an Accord, which has the display in a similar central/high up location along the dash. The problem is that it is susceptible to washout by sunlight. I also think the first gen's simplicity has been lost with all the additional buttons in the 2nd gen.

Honestly, after looking closely, there really aren't that many buttons. Seems to be on par with what we have now. It just looks like more because of the way they are placed. I'm sure that after using it for a week or two, you'd get used to it with no problem.

I know the 2008 loaners I have driven have a new leather steering wheel. I think it was a rolling change to use the same leather quality as the TL. This is the best pic I could find:

Hi all,
I don't currently have a TSX (or any Acura for that matter), but have been eyeing them for a while. For the 08 and older TSX's, how much do you actually have to touch the NAV rather than using voice commands and Zhenya, on the MDX, do you have to use the knob frequently or can you use voice for most/all of what you need?
Thanks
