i just keyed my own car

i was carrying a bunch of stuff and as i opened my door, my keys left a 2 inch scratch on my door near the end. i can't believe i did that. the scratch isn't deep, but it scratched the paint off. is there any cheap solution to fixing this?

www.expresspaint.com

theyre local out here in los angeles

they sell color matched pens, touch up paint, 11oz spray cans, pints, quarts.

just look for your color code on your door jam, and get the 11th digit on your VIN number

for example: polished metal metallic is NH737M and the 11th digit on my VIN was C

so it would be NH737M-C

i got an 11oz spray can for $25 plus shipping. i used it to spray my grill and eye lids. looking to paint my entire lip kit with a spray can. if it looks good, that would save me $600 from a professional paint job.

i think their pens are $15 plus shipping

youll have to gauge the hand pressure when you use the pen. because if you press too hard, then it'll be darker. also if you do too light, you might have to do a 2nd round. so practice on something first and put it against your paint to see if it matches

also youll probably have to buy a clear coat pen too and do some light wet sanding

Go to any body shop, they will fill it and blend the clear for around 200 bucks.

Or you can just fill it, but it will still look like crap.

the scratch is very small, and actually, it isn't too noticeable at all. but still D:

you can see the scratch just above the hood of the white car's reflection

Run your fingernail over the scratch, does it catch or does it go over smoothly?

If smoothly, good news! Go to walmart/autozone and pick up a tube of Meguairs Scratch X and a microfiber towel. Put a small dab on the towel and work it into the scratch, BACK AND FORTH MOTIONS ONLY! Then take some Isopropyl alcohol and wipe down the area. If it's still there, repeat once more and it should be almost gone or completely gone!

If it catches easily, then you are going to need to fill in the scratch with some touchup paint. The easiest method is to take a toothpick and dip it in the paint bottle, then place it on the scratch. Capillary action will pull the paint off the toothpick and perfectly into the scratch! Take a paper towel and smear the touchup paint before it dries and wipe off the excess! That way any excess is wiped off while the paint inside the scratch will still stay there!

What about for Premium Pearl White?
Isn't it supposedly almost impossible to color match?

I have a similar scratch on my car with my keys. I tried scratch x and it does not work. I could still see the mark. Once you wash the car you have to reapply the product.

same thing happened to me and it didn't buff out. Happened to me twice last winter. Ended up getting some brush paint from www.touchuppaintonline.com to fill those spots, it turned out pretty good.

Now I am super careful when get close to my car. I always put one hand on the zipper and use the other hand to open the door

scratch X contains some fillers and some abrasives to get rid of the scratch. The fillers fill it in while the abrasives actually remove it. That's why you need to wipe with alcohol and repeat! This way the fillers are removed so you can see whats left of the scratch. Also you have to work it in till it hazes, not dab and wipe.

Sand blast the affected area, then hold a low temp blow torch to the inside of the door panel, while pouring ice water on the outside.

try this- I have removed 3 minor scratches so far on my car- it is quick and easy- http://www.quixx-usa.com/
if the scratch is too deep-you'll need to use touch up paint- start lightly and build up thin coats of paint to fill in the valley.

I've used this on my ride for simple scratches and it works nicely; and for $11.
Even the folks at BMW recommend Quixx for simple scratches.

Those scratches look like the scratches I got from rock chips. I just use this scratch remover thing (its a a liquid or clay material, no idea whats it called) my dad bought. It doesn't really "remove" it, rather, it just makes it not visible when you look at it, but if you look at it from an angle with sunlight you can see the line. Its still good though, because its visibility gone if you look directly at it.

Of course, the thing I suggested, the scratches aren't deep. I only suggested it that, because it looks like its not deep in the picture.
