How much offset? 40mm is good or no?

I am intending to purchase some 18's for my TSX. I've asked around about the offset and many suggest between 42mm and 48mm. I've found these 18" rims with an offset of 40mm, is that still good?

I just wanted some discussion on whether this will affect my driving or anything like that. My TSX is currently stock and I'm not planning to lower the vehicle yet.

If you get an 8 inch width rim, they might stick out a tad, or be completely flush with the fender. A 7 and a half inch rim should be flush with the fender.

Im rolling with an 18x8 with 45et, and im lowered a lot, and they are still almost flush with the fender.

Some wheel manufacturers make a lot of different wheels but few offset variations. It's cheaper for them to produce more of a "one size fits most...kinda" opposed to someone like Rays, BBS, etc. who have very specific fitments and a wide range of offsets. Also, guys (companies) like Ron Jon are Honda/Acura specific, check out their fitments.

With a higher offset, you can always use a small spacer if you want them more flush to the fender, but if your offset is too low, no way to stuff them under the car more.

The 2nd gen is going to be able to take more aggressive sizing, Tire Rack is showing 8.5 width, 40 offset working and they are normally very conservative. I personally think 3rd gen TL fitment and 2nd gen TSX fitment are going to be pretty close.

youre probably right because the 2nd gen TSX is almost as wide as the 3rd gen TL

*Long*...sorry.

It seems like in my short time here I've posted a bunch about wheels and I'm not trying to be Mr Wheel Dude or anything, I'm just enjoying the conversation as I'm learning about this car. As mentioned, I did take a look at all the different sizes and offsets on Tire Rack.

There's everything from a TE37 17x7.5 +48 to a BBS LM 18x9.5 +55 and just about everything in between, including +40's and +43's, etc.

Something else to consider about offsets and wheel design is that the face of the wheel and arch of the spokes can effect offsets too. If the spokes are flat, you might need a lower offset and thicker hub so the back of the wheel doesn't interfere with the caliper. Whereas a high pad wheel like the TE can run a higher + offset for the spokes are designed for large calipers.

A manufacturer can change offset by moving the center of the wheel *or* the thickness of the hub itself.

So in other words, a +45 in one type of wheel might require a +55 in a different design even if they're the same width.

I do agree that Tire Rack is conservative, because they don't want to have to eat a bad fitment, but if I were looking at aftermarket wheels, I'd use someone like BBS or Rays or Work, etc as a reference of what's the best fit even if I were looking at wheels with a lower price point.

Take for instance a 96-00 Civic, everyone made 17x7 or 7.5's with a +40 for that car. Whereas a TE in that size for that app was a +42 or +43 (7" or 7.5"?). Many people with even modestly lowered cars, 205/40's and +40's scrubbed and had to roll the quarter panels, but most everyone with +43's and 205/40's had no issues.

Then again, even the Acura A Spec 18's for an 07 TL have an offset that's +5 too high & need a 5mm spacer to not look sucked in. (See the gallery for DeansBlackCLS)

I'm probably going to get an 09 next year, maybe a '10 so i've been doing a lot of research myself. its going to take some trial and error to see what will work but i'm hoping RonJon will get one pretty soon to see what we can expect on fitment. The wheels i want to run are 19x8 +37 front, 19x9 +37(or +42) rear, i think they will be pretty flush but i am going to be waiting until there's a grill and suspension available so we should know more by then.

The RJ's are beautiful wheels, I looked at the site today. 19x8x9's would be sick.

Yeah, a grill & suspension will be nice.

Well, I test fit two 20x8.5 +40, front and back, on my 09TSX, and the wheels were super flush. The front stuck out a tad bit more than the rear, but it still looked good. I like that aggressive look. Plus, I plan on lowering the car when springs come out, so the wheels will tuck in a bit.
