Honda's recalls for defective brakes

Honda just announced another recall for defective brakes in some Honda models. The recent recall is for 2007-08 Elements and Odysseys. They had another recall for brakes earlier this year. Anybody think that the squeaky, stiff brakes on the TSX are defective too or designed that way? I wish they would just do the recall and get it over with.

Right now, the squeaking breaks are my top complaint on the car.

The Element and Odyssey recall relates to the defective manufacturing that allows air to slowly enter into the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) modulator, which is part of the brake systems of the recalled vehicles. This results in the brakes not engaging until the pedal is pushed closer to the floor than usual, and the brake problems may worsen over time. So it has nothing to do with squeaky brakes.

Up here in Canada, most TSX owner received notice from Acura/Honda regrading free replacement of rear brake pads for abnormal/premature wear and in some circumstances replacement of the rotors and calipers also. Owner has up to 3 years from date of delivery to take advantage of recall. I am not sure if it's available in US.

my brakes are fine. they would squeak only when its really cold out and would stop as soon as they warmed up. maybe you got something stuck between the caliper and rotor. try mashing them from like 30 mph several times to knock it free lol.

have you reached the 20XXX miles yet? If not, beware!! haha, I've hit it, it starts to creak and squeak! then afterwards, the brake sensor goes and there is an annoying noise... the brakes go quick! i think my front ones are going out now too...

does anyone want to join me in writing a letter in the US to Honda and replace our brakes for free too? Cause it doesn't seem fair that the US doesn't have this kind of customer service... I mean brakes should, at least, die out by 40XXX miles right? If they're considered any "luxury" at all.

maybe that squeak is the brake pad wear indicator. it scrapes against the rotor telling you to change your pads. i have changed front pads in under 20,000 miles with my past two cars (civic, rsx.) If your brake sensor goes off your probably going to have to replace rotors too. sucks.

Well guess what guys... 35200 miles later I am looking at a new set of rear brake pads AGAIN!

First set went out at 13600. They have a problem and they better admit it. I am sending another stinker of a letter to Acura and ccing NHTSA.

I had mine replaced at 20K miles. As mentioned in earlier post, there's a recall notice sent out to all Canadian customer: May be you can print this out and take it to your dealer and try to get a free replacement. Looks like the new pads uses different (longer lasting) material.

No real miles on my 2010 yet, but my wife's 2006 ate brakes like mad. I ended up installing some power-stop slotted rotors. The pedal-feel was trash at times, but it seemed to really help to some extent over stock in stop-and-go driving (even with oem pads).

Everything about the 2010 tsx including steering, brakes, suspension etc seems very detached in comparison to any my previous vehicles. That 'floaty' feeling is starting to grow on me somewhat, but if there's a TSB shortly on those I'd certainly want to jump on it before it becomes a problem.
