good pointers to get the best deal...new tsx tech
so far ive been getting pretty frustrated with this whole haggle process. ive heard/read a ton of people here have paid under $30k for a brand new 2011 tsx tech package. but the best deal i have recieved thus far is the costco discount of 31300 which is invoice.
what am i doing wrong and should be doing? i am preapproved and have no trade as im coming off a company car.
please any good pointers or anyone know of a good dealership around texas?

What methods have you been using to negotiate so far? In person? Via email? Costco's pricing is usually decent but generally a bit high compared to what you should be able to get shopping around a bit.
Generally the best strategy is to email a variety of dealers within an hour's driving distance with the specific details of the car you're looking for and shop the best offer you get around to see who'll beat it. See the link in my sig for more tips.

I was among those getting a tech model for under $30k, but the dealer just called and told me they can't do it anymore because due to the shortage, Acura has taken all the dealer incentives away that made that pricing possible. They're now offering it to me at invoice. So you're probably getting the best deal you're going to get.

I've always found that you have to lie about everything in order to get your best deal. You also have to remain patient and be willing to walk away and not call them back. Some other tips:
* Get stats from www.truecar.com - stats don't lie
* Tell them you travel for work so you're open to buying from the other, or either coasts to get the car you want.
* Make up offers from other dealers, but be logical. Write the fake numbers down and bring them with you
* Get tons of internet quotes. They can BS that one dealer is low-balling to get you in their door, but if you have 10 quotes it's hard to argue
* But at the end of the month or quarter if possible
The earthquake in Japan is really throwing a wrench into purchasing a Japanese vehicle, but I'm not buying any of it. There are plenty of Acuras in this country right now. In fact, the last Acura dealer folded like a map when I told him I was considering a VW since they aren't gouging people over the EQ.
Patience is the big thing, but having a lot of numbers (from competitors) in front of you helps the cause a lot too.

If you cant get a price you are happy with, dont purchase, wait it out a bit and things will be more to your liking. I also purchased a tech under 30k. I purchased around June if it helps, and like tobey said truecar.com is a fantastic place.
Dont be afraid to walk out of a dealership if the negotiations are going down and you dont get the price you want. If you are arguing with the dealer over 300 or so in the end they would rather give you the sale than let you walk. And of course talk to their competitors. Drive a little further if you have to. Even if you buy your car from far away you can get it serviced anywhere
Haggling is an art, just know your price and be ready to play ball. They will also be more lenient with pricing if you wait till the 12s are ready to go on lot and they wanna get rid of the 11s

If you can, wait. The shortage is probably hurting you. Also, I bought at the end of the month and the dealers I was working with where fighting for my business. They have to make their quotas..it's extremely important.

Wheel locks come standard I think so don't include that in your pricing. I've yet to see an Acura without wheel locks. Check out this site called autobrag.com. You put out a bid of how much you want to pay for a new car...and then that site sends it out to dealerships in your area (you can pick which ones) and then sit back and wait. The internet guys at each dealership will email you back with counteroffers or even accept your offer. You're not locked in to buy or anything either. If they accept or you accept, just schedule an appt and go look. You can get some pretty good deals and best of all...you just wait cuz THEY will be coming to you. You can also compare what other people have paid for similar cars. Used it before when buying an accord 2 years back.
Oh and '12s would come out around August/Sept this year.

For me, wheel locks are so often thrown in I guess that they might as well come standard. For luxury cars, I think its almost an afterthought like "oh could I get wheel locks thrown in?" and the inevitable answer is "yes". That's why I wouldn't really factor in wheel locks to the price.
And I was just guessing about the '12 models...I was just basing the months off previous car model releases. Didn't factor in that the 11's came out in Jan...

Seeing that picture makes me want to procreate.
To add something to the discussion: an alternative view. How much is your time and aggravation worth? If it's a couple of hundred dollars, then perhaps it's not worth it.
Not saying that this applies to you since you mentioned you still have time, just my humble opinion.

Floor mats (already included), wheel locks, and splash guards, should always be your top "throw-ins", especially if they high-ball their price.
Near the end of this month, offer all the dealerships a "take it or leave it" price of 30K. Basically say that if they match that price, you come in today and buy immediately. That sways a lot of dealers to fold for that guaranteed sale.
