lol American cars r getting better. Ford has improve the greatest especially under their new CEO and bring the Euro versions of their cars over here. The funny thing is that the most American car is a Toyota Camry, cuz most cars made by the Big 3 are made in Mexico, and Canada. People dont look at facts and buy American when in fact their car is supporting outsoucing. I shouldnt be ranting though cuz our cars r made 100% in Japan
- Back to topic- The sport bumper is around $500 dollars and u can find it at acura parts dealer sites, like LINK . BTW the link is for a rear Aero in black. Copy the part number and website and give to ur body shop. Tell them that it comes prepainted so they can adjust it accordingly.

on that note, i am considering a ford fiesta as a replacement for my aging corolla : ) the new elantra is making me do a double take though

i know they are definitely making strides...you are right. Looking back into the last generation though of american cars it almost feels like the stone age.

the new mustang i think is what knocked off my socks the most though...that coyote 5.0 v8 isnt kidding around

Anyone see the numbers for the Honda Element? That thing is like 90% + American made. Pretty funny. Americans really can't complain anymore about what is and isn't American made.

I agree with a couple other posters. Hyundai is making serious strides and even the Kia is gaining head way. Only problem is even though the cars are looking much better, they're still using cheaper, lower quality parts. Just because they can roll out nice looking sheet metal doesn't make the car worth a damn.

Hey guys, so I'm finally my car is finally ready for pick up tomorrow.... 6 1/2 weeks after I got into the accident. Total damage @ 13 K.

Do you guys have any tips on what to look out for tomorrow when I inspect the car?

Thanks

the most dangerous thing you'd wanna be cautious of is frame damage i believe, but i have no idea how one would go about inspecting that

That sucks, most obvious thing to check I think is to see if it still drives straight or if it wobbles at highway speeds

So I picked up the car today, did my inspection and spent time riding the car. I noticed a few issues off the bat. The left rear mudguard was cracked and apparently put back on the car, there was touch up paint on the rear left door on the corner of the door (I only noticed it because I touched it when I was opening the car and got paint on my hand), and the car's interior was really dirty and dusty. I was most pissed about the interior, the guy promised me that the car would be cleaned prior to pick up. Apparently he only meant the outside of the car...

I b*tched about all the above and the guy was willing to work with me. He's purchasing a new splash guard for me, fixing the paint issue, and offered to pay for the car to be detailed. So overall I'm happy with that.

I did test drive the car for about 20-30 mins and everything seemed to check out fine... until I got home... cont..

So bear with me while I try explaining this.

I went home to start cleaning the interior and I had to enter my radio code when I got home. I found my card, turned the ignition on, and inputted the serial number instead of the radio code, and received an ERROR CODE 1 error. I then entered the correct code and the radio turned on. Immediately after that, whenever I hit or touched an electrical component, like the window switch, the radio would pause and then start again. Kinda like a record skipping. Also happened when I switched the input to my iPod.

I then went to turn the car on (the ignition was on) and the car wouldn't turn over. It sounded like the battery was dead or maybe the alternator. I immediately assumed something was up with the battery so I popped the hood and checked the terminals, everything looked good. I then went back into the car to try turning it on again. This time it did start, struggled a bit, but did start. Once the car was on, I went to test the radio and other electrical components and everything seemed to be fine. I turned the car on and off a few times and the car now seems fine.

So obviously this never happened to me before and I'm assuming the worse since the car was in an accident. The battery light in the dash did not turn on and everything electrical is working. So I don't think it's the battery. I also don't think this has anything to do with the radio code I put in incorrectly the first time, since this should only shut down the radio, not the car. So by process of elimination I can only think that there's something up with the electrical system or possibly a sensor in the car that may be faulty.

Any other ideas guys?? Sorry for the lengthy description, I'm just so frustrated at this point after waiting for 6 weeks for my car.

I'm going to test it out again in another hour or so. I only experienced this issue once, outside of this the car seems to be fine.

i think its your battery. get it tested at autozone or pep boys to see if its fully charged.

did the shop ever start up your car to recharge the battery within those 6 weeks? if not, then your battery was just draining. they shouldve taken the terminals off if they were just going to do body work.

maybe the owner needs to buy you a new battery($99) too

i didnt use my prelude for over a month and i had the same symptoms. eventually my battery died out and just replaced it and it runs fine.

You think so?? If it was the battery, why wouldn't it happen everytime? Wouldn't the battery light turn on?

Thanks man

Thanks man

maybe because your battery still has some juice in it. start your car up and take a 30-45 minute drive to let it fully recharge. turn it off and see if you get those symptoms again.

or try replacing the battery from another car and test out the symptoms again.

or quick and easy way is to just get it tested at an auto shop

check your manual for what would cause the battery light to turn on.

I immediately assumed something was up with the battery so I popped the hood and checked the terminals, everything looked good.
externally it may look good but internally, your battery might almost be dead

Previous to all this happening, I had driven the car for 30-40 mins, between the test drive and driving home. When I was experiencing this issue with the radio skipping, the ignition was on. So maybe you're right, the battery could be severely drained. I'm hoping it's as simple as that.

We'll see tomorrow after it's been sitting for the night in the cold. I'll probably take it over to a mechanic to have it tested just to play it safe.

Thanks for your help. Sorry to hear about your car, but at least you can get a new one now. Kinda wish mine was totaled, instead of dealing with this.

Wow... 13k in damage. I would have done everything in my power to make sure that thing was totaled. Electrical issue was most likely the battery...you didn't drive the car long enough to let the alternator charge the battery. I say most likely because I'm crossing my fingers hoping there isn't some larger electrical problem lingering.

Good luck! Keep us posted

Yea 13k in damage. I was still well short of it being totaled. The car was valued at 25K, so I'd have to have around 17-18K worth of damage. She's an 09 and only has 12,000 miles on it.

Trust me, I was begging to get this totaled. I was hoping for frame damage, but they didn't find any. Who knows, maybe it's an electrical issue and it'll push it closer to being totaled. Doubtful, but I'm hoping.

I'll take some pictures of the car when I get a chance. I should've taken them before I cleaned the inside of it. I couldn't believe how they left it. Looked like someone drove through the desert with the windows down.

My son's TL was at a body shop, and the idiots kept setting off the alarm. They never called us to ask how to bypass the damn alarm. The end result was a dead ballast on the HIDs, and a dead battery. In the end, they only paid for 50% saying the car was old, etc.

I think your body shop did the right thing. Good luck with everything.
