Extended Warranty Purchase
I took a look over this forum, but couldn't find anything regarding this topic.
I'm looking at purchasing (financing) a 2010 6-speed premium (US base) model.
Just wondering how many of you have purchased the extended warranty?
In Canada, we have the option of extending the warranty up to 7/8 yrs/200,000 km (for I think around $2500ish extra).
I do plan on keeping the car for some time and will def put on 200,000 km before 7 or 8 years are up, but I'm just debating if its worth the extra $$.
Also, is there room to negotiate the price of the warranty in the deal.
Any help/input would be great!

WTH happened to my garage
I went with the 5/100 against my better judgement only because of the tech...stuff in this car and because I drive too many miles for the standard warranty to cover me for a long enough period of time.

Buy it on the internet for a lot cheaper, get the Honda Acura one not a knock off brand. mine was the longest you can go and it was like $1,300.00 on the net and the dealer would have gotten 2k at least.

I got the longest Acura Care warranty, I think 8 years 120k for $950. Just tell the Finance Mgr that you understand he is trying to hit his numbers and are willing to give him $50 bucks over cost.

I bought my car back in June 08, the longest warranty available at the time was 7yrs/160,000km which I went for and managed to get 20% discount off.
I went with it because of the number of electronics stuff in the car, the GPS/Navi alone will cost over C$4K to replace, and Acura Care comes with free towing to the nearest Acura dealer (even if it's 200 miles away).

Is the GPS/Navi/Tech comonents covered under the original 4yr/50K mile warranty? I looked on the site and could not find it.

I have it and I like knowing I have it. I'm sure the next ten people will say it's a waste of money and they might be right most of the time. But what if your car is that one in ten that, it was a good thing you got it for?

My concern is the TECH package and all the electronics. Our 2005 TSX hit 92,000 the other day and has yet to skip a beat on anything, so not overly concerned with the power train although anything is possible....
Plus my wife (who's car this really is...) drives about 23-25,000 miles per yr, so the 4yr/50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty is really only a 2 yr warranty.
Another question is when do you have to buy the OEM warranty ? I know with GM, they consider a vehicle to be classified as "NEW" for the warranty purchase if it is (obviously) just being purchased BUT they also allow you up to 12 months or 12,000 miles to be consider new...so I always wait until 11 months or 11,000 miles, then buy the 5/yr100 bumper to bumper extended...as with GM the warranty period starts on the day and mileage you buy the warranty. So by doing this, I'm actually gaining time and miles for the same cost as if I had purchased the warranty the day I bought the truck. Just not sure if Acura is the same way or not.....

Found out some really useful info today researching this and wanted to share. From Dave H at Curry Acura: price is the same as brand new if vehicle is under 6,000 miles. Once over 6,000 miles, prices change as do program eligibility, length in time and miles. Also, time/mileage starts from date of purchase of car, not purchase of contract unless you are over the 6,000 mile limit. Hard to explain here, but he took the time to explain how Acura does it with some examples. Basically, if you want the longest possible term, and the best pricing, you need to buy pre-6,000 miles....
They offer what appears to be some great pricing on fully paid (not financed) service contracts (which according to Acura these are and not extended warranties...ok..whatever...). We are going with either the 7yr/120K mile zero deductible for $1490 or the 8yr/120 mile zero deductible for $1705. for the post above, the 7yr/70K mile zero deductible would have cost $930 from them.
i don't know if their prices are the best or how they stack up with other dealerships.... I just wanted to share the info I received as I was looking. We get the new car tomorrow at 4PM (had to wait for the remote started, spoiler and other acc's to be installed ) and will see how well the selling dealer's prices compare !!!
