Engine metal bell rattle noise at 2.5k rpms
The tittle kind of sums it up quite well lol So if i am running around and the tranny decides to keep the engine gear where it sits for 2-3 secs in 2.5k, i get this sudden metal clanking noise around the engine. Only around that 2k-3k rpms range. Its not very loud but its audible. I was going to inspect for loose catch pan or even loose catalictyc heat shield as sometimes it just something like that... but wanted to see if its common and you guys could tell me what it could be. It does not come up at any other scenario, when i floor the car, it runs just fine. Could say the noise happens sort of when the tranny is about to shift or so. Sort of like tranny hesitating? But the engine or tranny feel like they are jolting or having issues. Car runs smooth, just the noise. Its a 2009 TSX stock except for the 19" wheels just incase this might promote this issue.

It might be the known engine pinging/knocking issue.

I don't think is the TSB pinging issue because it only happens during that rpm range. Have never heard the noise anywhere else. I'll check for loose metal shields or so first. If no culprit found, ill record the noise with my zoom mic, should be able to pic it up. Not sure if it happens while parked... Don't think so thou.

Does it happen only when driving or also when just revving the engine? If the latter, have someone rev it and put a long screwdriver's end to various places you think the noise is coming from and the other end to your ear. This way you will be able to identify the source of the noise. Be careful not to poke the screwdriver into something spinning.

ooooh, I like where you're going with that. I'd also add, where do you (ultracool) live? That is, what elevation?
I had a dying AFM on my Tacoma once that would ping like a mutha under load on the highway. Sounded sort of like a bunch of ball bearings in a coffee can.

Engine also takes a while to start but i've read online its common because of the low cca battery they run with. Also it has a 1kw amp with a 12" sub so that might be draining a bit too much. I will swap the battery with an optima one later on with 575 cca. Starter moves fine, just takes like 5-10 secs sometimes until it finally starts.... My civic never did that with 140k miles on it.

Well today on the afternoon i had a long start again and all check lights on again.... turn off car and turn on and only emission system check persists. Getting code P0339 which is the crank pos sensor? Battery testing passed yesterday so i though it was simply low cca but could his sensor be the culprit for the long starting? Once the car is on and i clear the fault code the car runs fine. This is the second time i get the code. Within 2 days...

Possible causes
- Faulty crankshaft position sensor
- Crankshaft position sensor harness is open or shorted
- Crankshaft position sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Signal plate may be damage
- Starter motor may be faulty
- Starting system circuit
- Dead or weak battery
Tech notes
Sometimes and in some models, low battery voltage or a weak starter can can trigger a Crankshaft Position Sensor code. Before replacing any parts, recharge or replaced battery.

Sounds like that code could just be the battery as you suspected. Did you test it under load or just voltage on the bench?

Power system was tested at autozone with their little gadget. The battery was holding 100% and the alternator was working perfectly... all voltages good. So i kind of discarded that... But getting that code only when i leave the ignition starting too long. If i start the car in like 2-3 short bursts it doesnt seem to be send the code. Just kind of though it was it because got the code twice... but now i see it could still be the battery. :/
