Eliminating the Key Hole

Has anyone else thought about eliminating the key hole in the driver's door handle?

I'm thinking about going to the dealer and buying that little chrome piece from the driver's side rear door handle and replacing the driver's door handle with it to eliminate the key hole. I've seen it done on 3rd Gen. TL's (their's are paintmatched though) and it just looked better.

There's really no need to have it there. Even if your battery died and you needed to get into the car, you'd be able to open the trunk and climb in through there.

I wondered about that. It's real subtle, but those who notice it are the ones you want to, ya know?

The ones on the 3G TL's are just clipped on, there's a little access slot you can poke with a paper clip to get the cover off and access the keyhole. Another friend's 3G says his falls off of the...passenger side, I think(?) for some reason.

I would send my 8 yo daughter through the trunk, but not my fata$$.

Do let us know if it's the same arrangement on ours though, please. The only other reason to leave it alone would be if one uses the window close feature with the key, which I've done once, so far.

I don't use the window close feature at all. I use the window opening feature with the remote though all the time in the summer.

I'm going to look into it and find out how much that little piece is.

I didn't think there was a keyhole in the trunk? If so, if your battery dies you won't be able to open any of the windows, locks, or trunk. Careful.

removing the keyhole is the same idea as removing door handles (with remote door open)...press cool idea until something breaks, but in this case, a slim jim will suffice?

I didn't even realize there wasn't a trunk key hole. Guess I never really tried to look. In that case I won't be doing this.

My lil' Si didn't have a key hole in the trunk lid either...but like I said, if it's as easy as the 3G TL, then you could pop off the cover quickly to gain access to the key hole.

Then again, if your battery is dead, unless your phone is locked in the car, no real reason *to* get in as far as I can tell...you're not going to crank it up & drive away anyway.

Its the battery in the remote[in your key] that you have to worry about, not the cars battery. But,yes if the cars battery is dead, you would still be up st!t creek.

Yeah, true, I don't think I've ever had to buy a battery for a remote, but I do know they do go bad.

Yeah, when the battery is dead in the remote, it's time to get a new car.

Ok so we've established that if your battery is dead, you will not be driving anywhere. You would still need to get in the car to release the hood, to charge/change the battery.

I think even if you put that piece on your door you would probably be able to pop it off in an emergency.
