drove the 335d, how it compares to the tsx 6mt which i own

335d pros vs tsx
better steering feedback and feel
better suspension for fun, better handling
brutal torque and freeway acceleration
better fuel economy with a lot of power
better exhaust note
higher brand value
MORE FUN is the main reason i wanted it over the tsx

335d cons vs tsx
more expensive to buy and repair
not as reliable
douche bag persona to the public
not as good over rough pavement
smaller back seat
tsx seats are more comfortable
harder to sell and trade in - lots of depreciation, b/c the culture here is not familar with diesel
carbon buildup issues
parts are hard to buy - back orders
lower cetane fuels in some states add to carbon issues t
bmw has you by the balls b/c not many small garages that are familar with these diesel bmws

335d typically compared to tl sh-awd, but i drove the tl sh-awd before and i preferred the tsx over it. the tl sh-awd feels too heavy. it's only better in 0-60 over the tsx in my limited views (pls don't flame me...hahahah)

the fact that the 335d is even being compared tothe tsx is already a great feat - b/c the 335d cost so much more it is supposed to be a lot better

what would make the me keep my tsx and not consider other car:
better steering feedback and overall feel
an option to have a sports tuned suspension from the factory
50 more hp
8000 rpm redline
a true lsd (i'd roll semislicks in the summer...hahahah)
IF THERE IS ONLY A SMALL INCREASE IN WEIGHT FOR THE ABOVE AND THE COST WAS MORE IN BUYING THE TSX I WOULD BE GLAD TO PAY MORE)

I think acura should have a highly tuned model like a type-r that would showcase what the tsx could do, but not sure how much of a market there would be for such a product.

The main reason I'm looking for another ride to replace my tsx, is that it lacks FUN relative to some other cars. I'm a fan of honda/acura, but they position their products to a certain market.

Thank you for taking the time to create this post. I must be brutally honest though, and observe that most (close to all of it) strikes me as comments made by "Captain Obvious". All the pros and cons are pretty well known by those of us here (the only ones reading it), as is your dilemma. There's no doubt that Honda is well aware of what the TSX lacks in the "sporty" department. So, they obviously made marketing decisions when choosing the performance and equipment levels for the car that don't include more performance. We must assume that they know that their available target audience does not include anywhere near enough buyers to support the kind of performance enhancements you mention. I would suppose that they need look no further than the dismal "take" rate of the first gen MT TSX (and continued with the 2nd gen car) to realize that not too many harder core performance buyers were/are cross shopping the TSX (a point that I've been making for many years)(and goes back to my apples and oranges comment).

Many of us here would be much happier with the brand (and more loyal to it) if a more sporty/higher performance version of the TSX had been available (don't forget that the TSX is going the way of the RSX). We represent a sliver of the TSX target market, and we like to wonder why Honda doesn't think more like we do. But they most often don't.

There really should have been a TSX-S or something... lighter, more power, better suspension, hydraulic power steering... etc...

I think the 6mt in the tsx is one of the best in the business. The s2000sshifter beats it.

I know there is a thread around here where I had added driving impressions, even the first few days where I was hearing noises and what not...

The car is now being set up to be turbo charged, so... she is sitting in a shop being worked on.

I came from a 335ix and must say that while the TSX isn't quite as engaging to drive, there are just a few things that make the 335 totally unsuitable for everyday driving - even without the sport suspension:

The ride over broken pavement or potholes is brutal.
The reliability is abysmal.
Repair costs (even under warranty) are outrageous. You either buy the tire/wheel warranty or you buy new wheels and tires regularly - either way it is a pain in the ass.

I totally agree with your comments.

335d > than 335i. I think the 335d is ok reliable once you remove the dpf and urea system.

and once you remove the diesel particulate filter you run afoul of the North American environmental laws and your car can no longer be legally used on the road. You also will lose any warranty coverage.

This is so true, so you have to keep everything intact until the warranty runs out. At that point you either extend the warranty and keep it all stock or time to mod the exhaust system and sensors.

the dpf doesn't really reduce emissions, it just lets them out at smaller intervals. it's like breaking up a fart into 100 pieces so you can't smell it....hahahah. i know bad analogy~ sorry

in essence an normal 335i probably has a larger carbon foot print than a modified 335d, b/c the consumption of fuel is so much less per 100 miles in the 335d. you could get up to 40mpg on the freeway. diesel vs gas is more about politics than anything else. why do transport trucks have no emission standards or much lower standards?

however like any car, the 335d has it's flaws and it's always about compromises.
