DRL on and off during start-up

Hi all, does anyone know why the DRL on my '12 TSX wagon sometimes comes on when I start up the car and sometimes only comes on when I actually put the car into gear?

When you start the car and the hand brake is engaged, the DRL will not turn on until you put it into gear. If your hand brake is disengaged while starting the car, the DRL will automatically turn on
