Does Acura own a button manufacturer?

Can someone please help me understand why the dash/steering wheel is so overloaded with buttons? Seriously, out of the 45+ buttons I counted on the 2010, how many of those do you actually use on a daily basis? Why doesnt Acura incorporate some of those functions into the nav?

Its almost comical that I consider this when upgrading from my 04 6spd, but holy frickin overkill...it really is ridiculous looking.

well the honda accord and pilot is much worse in looks.

I actually like independent buttons instead of searching or going through the menu. just think of them as "extra features" for your car

I like them too.
Once you get really used to all of them, it doesn't feel like much at all.

Some people like keyboard shortcuts. Some people like pointing and clicking with a mouse. In terms of speed, nothing beats keyboard shortcuts and nothing beats buttons. The best example of this is the MP3 player. I use it everyday and it's a pain in the ass having to scroll through a large list of songs, even with the "page down" function.

I'd rather have to hit one button on the dash as opposed to scrolling through 4 different menus with my iDrive controller.

zing.

Nicely put. The only buttons on the steering wheel I don't use are the HandsFreeLink and Bluetooth. The cluster of buttons overall don't bother me though.

I'm another fan of buttons rather than endless menu screens from a single interface. After a couple weeks, the buttons are intuitive and probably safer than navigating multiple screens in terms of driver distraction and accidents. Just my two cents.

Agreed! There is one item that Acura missed though: there is no direct way (i.e., a button) to access the "Random in Folder" and "random all" when you are in Aux mode playing songs from a USB memory key. Intuitively, I thought the "scan" button could be assigned to this function, similar to the Auto Select button in my 2000 Accord that accessed the Random mode when playing CD audios....

and why do you think when i got a new phone, i avoided the touch screen ones, cause i like buttons that actually have a dedicated function to them, let alone actually being able to feel them when you are not looking at it and such (where with the touch screen, at least i have to be actually looking at it directly to use it

, don't get me wrong sometimes the touchscreen is much easier to use, but most of the time i prefer actual buttons

and just imagine if you had to go through a couple of screens, just to say roll the windows down, that would get tiring real fast (and alot of window switches nowadays just put a input/signal into a computer which actually controls the window itself; so it would not be very hard to implement, some software just needs to be written)(and for a better idea/point you can control windows through a scan tool on alot of the new cars)

It's fine like it is, leave the dash alone.

I always heard and read complaints about Acura sea of buttons, Once you get used to know where everything is, there is no problem. It did not take me long to get used to it.

I'd like to see an example of a car (with the same level of tech features) of how to do the 'right' amount of buttons.

To me the button clutter cheapens the car.

I find it the other way around. More buttons insinuates more features, which begets more money.

It looks like people like the large amount of buttons for functionality, but hate how it clutters the dash.

Seriously! I just purchased a 2008 Acura TL with Navi and my wife thinks the interior looks like a fighter jet cockpit. Hence the name "Jet Blue" for the new wheels.

2008? I like the 3G TL's interior, that and the 1G TSX had one of the best interiors layout-wise, IMO.

Fuck yeah...buttons rule!!!!

If buttons are good enough for the fine brave men and women flying F-18s...it's good enough for us.

Hey...looks like they have the tech package as well!

LOL.

The picture I posted is not mine. The owner, either DeathMetal or Rorger555 had replaced the bulbs with Blue LED's

To all, so what are the optimal number of buttons? What is an example of 'buttons done right?'

Look at all the buttons on the Buick Regal, why isn't anybody complaining about those?
