DIY hood vent cutting. going to a junkyard

so im planning to go to a local junkyard to find an extra hood and do some custom vent cutting. ive never cut any hood vents before so ill be practicing some designs on cardboard. im pretty sure id have to do some fiberglassing, bondo and sanding. then paint match the hood afterwards. i think this will make my car look more aggressive as it is now.

any recommendations on what kind of vent designs i should try? i have a few ideas already in mind and they're simple and clean.

if you like, post some pictures of aftermarket hood vents that's clean

feel free to photoshop hood vents on my car. ill post some of my photoshops ideas myself

think twice...

those vents, combined with the smiley snout and Acura badge make the ride look like a carved blue halloween pumpkin.....

The only truly functional ducts are NACA's.

Substance or style?

The engine is turned the wrong way, you don't have twin MAF's on this car and there's no intercoolers with which to feed with said scoops.

hehehe its just something im doing for fun. i will still have my OEM hood if the extra hood ends up turning like crap.

i was thinking of something like this. its just one line across. medium length. clean and simple. id do it just for style.

i prefer the clean hood, but man those foglights are nice. i always liked the rectangular shaped ones. how did you mod those?
my brother and i share a mazda 3 07, and it had the rectangular foglights. looked much better than the previous year's rounded ones. but thenthey had to ruin the entire cars style with that new ugly grin on the front of the 09/10s

what about a single vent in the middle of the hood near the top.
in a very obtuse angled V shape.
it might look better with that cornered edge as itll match the other tsx sharp edges
sorry for no pic

i will have two hoods, OEM and a custom one. both will be paint matched. i plan to interchange them once a month.

yea i wasnt too fond of the OEM fog lights. just my preference.

i bought replica prelude foglights and turnsignals off ebay. created custom brackets. repositioned the DRL/high beams to the prelude foglights. create custom fiberglass housing wrapped in 3D carbon fiber vinyl to fill in the gaps.

i still need to put yellow LEDs in the DRL headlight and upper foglight area. i have to create custom bulb sockets for the LEDs

i wonder whats the cost for that mugen hood? i bet its like $1500 plus shipping.

im thinking it should cost me like $150 for a junkyard hood plus another $200 for paint match

I really like how youi want to mod your car, but your trashing your car with cheap and tacky mods, you own an Acura TSX, not a 92' civic. I may not have many post but have been following your car for the past 4-5 months as I have been an avid researcher of the v6 TSX, as a reason for beign on this forum

which mods are tacky besides the home depot lip? btw i like the home depot lip. i really dont need to spend $700 on a fiberglass lip that will guarantee to crack on me.

The idea of the HD lip is awesome...cheap, easily replaceable, deforms when curbed/scraped. I don't like it because it deforms at highway speed. This is what I want: rubber lip

If you get the correct thickness, it won't deform at speed (giving you greater mpg and stability), however it will deform when it hits something solid...this shit is baller.

you guys are too quick to judge.
let me attempt to do it then ill show you the results.

you cant beat a $16 home depot lip
its completely functional for me since im scraping and its easily replaceable if it gets damaged

i can wrap up the home depot lip in 3D carbon fiber vinyl to match my fog light housings.

actually i can do like 3-4 versions of the home depot lip with different styling or cut outs. id just have to think of the design and form/cut the shape. i can even fiberglass the lip so people wont recognize its even a home depot lip. its not that hard to fiberglass. i just dont like sanding down the lip glass smooth since its takes up a lot of time.

I really like what you did with the fogs, but I see almost no chance of these hood vents turning out anything remotely resembling functional/classy/attractive. Good luck in any case. Wise move to get an extra hood to play with for this mod.

I guess i have to prove to the world otherwise. It's not going to look ricey. I really want it to look like the mugen hood. Two small vents and that's it. I just have to figure out what exact shape.

I actually have 2 hood extra prelude hoods that I can practice on.

Thanks, I will need it.
