Default to MPG screen

Is there a way to default the dash screen to MPG when we start the car?

Yeah, I don't think the car has an option to show anything on startup. But it remembers the last selection, as urbanstereo pointed out.

I want this feature too.

That's not fair. There are plenty of options. You can have the blank screen or you can have the blank screen. If you don't like that then you can have the blank screen.

What he said. I chose option 4, the blank screen. Obviously ceb hasn't fully read the owners manual to realize there are more than 3 blank screen options.

I wish I knew how to make simple controllers. I would make one to simulate the up button being pressed after a 5 second delay of receiving power.

I've looked into using that for an LED controller before but was a little intimidated by all the code. I should probably just buy one and spend some time playing with it and I'll be able to understand it faster than just reading.

There is a small little module that's programmable when it receives or see power/ground. I have one at home. We used to use it for alarms and remote starts. This should do the trick for you. No coding needed

nah it's really easy... once you look at the sample code and start messing around with it you'll figure it out

your code would literally be like:
wait(5000ms);
then use one of the analog outputs for the button, done.

Damn, how did I miss that? I guess I should have read the OM but I thought that black thing with pages inside in the glovebox was a counterweight to the box in the trunk.

Does anyone else get the feeling that their mpg screen is lying to them? I can be cruising along in 6th at 2700 rpm and read 40+ mpg. touch the throttle and raise those rpms by 300 so now I'm running at 3k rpm and the read goes down to 20 ish. BUT, if I stay off of the throttle and downshift even 2 gears and jump rpms up to 4 and a half, the mpg read is still pegged out at 40+???? How can I be burning more fuel at 3000 rpm than I am at 4500 rpm?

Are you talking about the "instant mpg" or the "average mpg"?

I think you have to go by average mpg. That instant mpg is just to help you save gas by showing you just how much of the pedal you're using. I use that to adjust my rpm and pedal feathering to achieve a higher mpg.

Yes. That instant reading is a joke. I generally don't worry too much about mpg. I cruise at what I cruise at. It's also fun to keep lower gears and let the high rev motor do its thing.

With the tsx, I usually just track the miles and calculate at each fill of the tank (I really ought to balance that to what the cpu averages.) My old 3G TL was almost always spot on- but no instant- only the average calculated with that car.

You're mistake is assuming that only rpms matter in mpg, ignoring load and throttle position.

I believe fbt is correct.

Just try downshifting with your paddle shifter. Your RPM will go up, but instantaneous MPG will likely remain the same.

Infiniti's have a much more detailed MPG screen on the bigger center dash screen... wish the Acura's did the same.
