Custom LED tails for 09-10

Yep. That's what I was thinking. Except the inner circle part that you have lighting up would be LED...but I think you get the idea, probably just hard to do with a GIF

I replaced the 3rd brake lamp with this one:
It's a direct fit and works quite well. Slightly less bright as the bulb, but very acceptable. The point of having at least one brake LED lamp is that it turns on almost instantly and the guy behind you has a few more milliseconds of reaction time in case of emergency braking.
The other options I was (and still) considering is to retrofit a honda civic hybrid 3rd brake lamp LED strip, but it's almost 200$ and involves removing the rear shelf etc, so a lot of work... I guess I am getting lazy with age (and other obligations that eat up the 24 h we have in the day!)

look through it, he has some sweet wheels, and on page 2 it shows some more of his work on the other parts of the rear lights

Hey guys, sorry for the crazy late reply. Stupid Chem major requirements are owning me right now. I hate Physics and Calc and since I'm a B.S. I have to take the Engineering versions....
Anyway, I'm Isaac and I guess I'll be helping you guys make LED tails for you guys (Mike forced me LOL...jk!). I made a set for my 1996 Lexus ES300 in the past and I have a bit of material left over for a "Limited Edition" run for you guys once I get the measurements and stuff from Mike. I use quality LEDs, so none of that 5mm crap you can buy for cheap. These are LumiLEDs which have been used in OEM set ups for various manufacturers.
Anyway, here are some various pictures. I'd post up the completed set of tails but for reasons unbeknownst to me, my sister stole my car so its in UCLA right now. I hope these pictures get the message across of what I can do given the amount of time I have to work.
Here is the 3rd brake light I made for my ES. I played around with putting the red cover on or not but it actually looked better without it since the diffusing of the cover was insane since you couldn't even tell it was an LED set up. It was still clear as day despite being bare. To give you an idea, with the diffusor the light was greatly less than without since it was distorted a lot. I lost about 80% of the light due to it when I made this so I took it off. With your guys, I'll be able to do much more since it isn't as diffused as mine so you guys will be able to keep the cover on.
Lit up. I could see the red illuminating the back of street signs over a mile away after this mod alone (I made the tails later)
As for the tails, it'll require the use of a PWM to prevent voltage spikes and enable the tails to last as long as possible. Generally the rule of thumb of this board is that it'll make it last for the length of the vehicle unless some component burns out due to over voltage. Its a tried and true method for keeping your tails pumping out around 12v, which is what I design my boards around. Now, the best thing about this, is that if you think its too bright, you turn a screw to make it more dim! This is just a precautionary thing that I'll try to incorporate into each tail light I make.
Here is an example of the boards I made for my ES. It took a hell of a lot of soldering thats for sure. It was so intense that pointing my camera at it sorta blew out the red sensor thing afterwards.
And here is the output from the 2 boards. Keep in mind that each side of my tail light required the use of 2 boards
Hope that helps you guys out. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them when I can

As long as they are adjustable. I don't see the point in blinding people. Don't exactly want to get hit. But I'm still serious about getting these. Unfortunately I don't get to see the pics since bandwidth out here is limited from the satellite but I do remember seeing the first post of the simple LED 3rd brake light and the circular LED setup which I like. If anyone can do this, put me down on your list. I won't be able to send them out 'till August but I'll send a retainer of some sort and pay for parts.

LED Reflectors
Hey CU2MIKE, if you want I can try to take a pic or vid of what car look like with LED reflectors and US sports bumper. I modded mine a year ago.
I made the reflectors light up during braking and now have 5 brake lights, because I was to lazy to take out the interior third brake light bulb when I installed my spoiler. I also made the leds blink 7 time before staying on steady. I did this because every one around here tailgates. It was either blinking lights or a led license plate that scrolls F#^% You.
