Cracked windshield

Just got a nice cracked windshield on 95 north today. It''s already starting to spread, a star shape about a 50 cent piece in diameter. I'm afraid this won't be a good candidate for the glue they fix these with? Any tips on what to make sure they do if it needs a new windshield?

Cracked my windshield last summer and got it replaced. Make sure they have the painted windshield trim pieces ordered beforehand. The guy came out not realizing he needed to replace them and then I had to wait another week to get them ordered.

As mentioned, replacement window molding and thoroughly inspect the work when they are done.

Had my windshield replaced last summer. The Safelite Tech didn't have the replacement window molding and just reused the old ones. They where all scuffed up from being removed. Also the rubber seal molding around the window was not flush. It was uneven and looked like crap. I had to complain to manager. They ordered new molding and a different tech re-installed a new windshield.

They came out to "repair" the crack. But it grew 4x as big. So I'm getting a new windshield next week. Told them I needed the side trim too, they looked it up and agreed and got them ordered. Hope they send their best tech...

Acura touts the 2011 TSX as having acoustical windshield glass.

ACOUSTIC WINDSHIELD

Special acoustic glass is now used on the 2011 TSX windshield to help reduce noise entering the cabin. Tuned specifically to attenuate wind-noise frequencies, the unique windshield uses two layers of 2 mm safety glass with an in-between layer of a transparent elastic acoustic membrane for a total thickness of 4.7 mm. The acoustic windshield (in conjunction with 4 mm thick side windows) helps position the TSX at the top of its class in wind-noise performanc
e.

Do the replacement windshields meet these standards? PPG and Safelite both claimed their replacement windshields are OEE (original equipment equivalent), but refused to confirm they have the same level of acoustical properties as Acura OEM versions.

Interesting! I did tell them that I needed the OEM glass too.

This is just more snake oil from the manufacturer. I challenge anyone to tell the difference inside the car (without tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment). I had Safelite replace my windshield last summer (in their shop, I would never have it done "on site"). I have no idea if they replaced the side trim pieces; it never would have occurred to me to ask. I cruise considerably above the speed limit on the highway fairly regularly, and they haven't loosened up or blown off yet, so my guess is they never will (and so what if they do; I'll just get some new ones). No scratches or marks either. I understand that everyone wants the job done right, but this is not rocket science ladies.
