buying used certified TSX
Hi I was wondering if anyone on here could help me out i have a 2012 genesis coupe right now that i don't mind driving just cant stand the transmission the manual is horrible in this thing. I found 2 Acura's at a dealer 2 hours away cause that's the closest pair to me but there commercial cars when you pull up the carfax. they look clean from the pictures but i know commercial is a fleet vehicle or business car. One of the vehicles was certified and the other is not my question is would any of you buy one or not saying they drove nice and looked clean? I have never looked at any like this before so im lost and i know the dealer will tell me anything to buy it.

I just bought my 2009 Certified used TSX last month and it was a lease for the past three years. It has 24k miles on it and looks 98% new inside and out. I was told it was some old person that drove it and leased another Acura again. So with so few miles and probably being driven like you would think an older person drives, I couldnt resist buying the car. Saved me $10k over buying a new one. It has a clean carfax and had regular scheduled maintenance as a lease is supposed to have. I have no regrets buying it.
Just look at the cars and judge for yourself on the condition and amount of use it has been through. I would probably go for the certified one unless it has way more miles than the other car.

carfax's are only good with information provided to them. Even tho I have all the service on my tsx done by acura dealers only the service from Acura of Reno and a recall showed up. The 2 other dealers I go to do not give them any info. How many miles do they have? Besides the tsx I also own a '11 sonata with 6MT. It does take time to get used to it but I do good now even after driving my 6MT tsx. Take a ride and check out the cars. Good luck.

I agree with 09TSXer...see in person. It's the minor nics and crap that would bother me (only see in person)
Even if you drive the 2 hrs, if your lookin for a I4...there's ALOT of cpo 2009-2010 out there. Don't let them pressure you at all, like i caved into. You may be able to save more driving farther.
The cpo 2010 looks like a better deal. 10k less miles and cpo that adds the warranty extension. (I got cpo and added the exteded 8yr full warranty).

where are you located? If you are somewhere in LA area you should hit me up. I have the most certified cars on my lot, and am usually like 95% the lowest priced because of my location. i price the cars extremely low to attract customers because its not somewhere you just randomly walk to. You got to know that you want to buy to come. I'm the used car /recon manager at Acura 101 west. I personally have a good review and since you are on this forum i'll give you the full scoop on each car on my lot to put your mind at ease.

I'd hate to think that the local Nissan dealership has more certified cars on your lot than you do.
Anybody remember that 80's movie "Used Cars?" This poster sounds like that sleazeball in the movie.

You can try and negotiate to lower the price a little bit more, you never know.
Good luck

no warranty = deal breaker for me. there should be no reason that a dealer doesn't wanna certify an acura with only 27K miles, they must know something that they dont wanna tell you. just so you know also, if you buy something with no warranty, you can buy an extended warranty through curry acura or something online, you can do that upto 50K miles or 4 years i believe, i can look it up for you if you need. its not full warranty, but its good enough for the big stuff

I work for a fleet company, and I would NEVER buy a fleet vehicle. Oil changes every 25,000 miles, not washed or cleaned, etc. No way! lol
And to the OP, you have a 2012 Genesis? You may want to hold onto that car for awhile longer, you may lose your shirt in resale on such a new car.

apparently commercial is was leased cars come up on carfax now don't know why the hell they changed it seems dumb to me to lump all that in one. the dealer i'm looking at told me there not as big as some dealers so they don't certify unless its under 20k and only a few years old they cant afford to certify every car when they cant sell as many. i think this is the only other one i'm going to check a lot of acura dealers still want to many 25k for most the others around me with 30k on them being certified is not worth it to me when a couple thousand more i can have a brand new one so just going to have to keep an eye open. the 09 still has a year or so left of warranty my wife's 09 accord hasn't had one problem really so I feel more comfortable with that than my hyundai with a fucked tranny i all ready have had warranty work on the hyundai too so well see just have to watch the dealers like a hawk thanks all for the help.

Just a tip. since me being part of a dealership makes me sleezy. if a car is not becoming certified it can be for a few reasons. 1. accident. 2. clean carfax but still frame or missing vin stickers. 3. costs to certify are too expensive with maintenance and body.
just a tip. i dont really care about bringing in customer. i work the reconditioning side. not sales. and what i mean by full scoop is if anything has been painted. all mechanical recommendations on my certified cars are performed. body work i make sure that everything is in very very nice condition because it is our core product and must be in mint condition. If you read into my post the wrong way well im sorry for that, i was just trying to help a TSX member.

^ I donno about that man... I think it's a case-by-case thing.
I scraped by '09 TSX 6MT pulling into my garage. Paid $1500 to fix it, because I use a good shop to get the job done right. Well sure enough when it came time to sell, the buyer threw a shit fit because I did not disclose this and an independent mechanic caught it.
In hindsight I should have disclosed it, but that mofo still made out with one hell of a deal. Essentially a brand new car, tints, otherwise stock 6MT '09 TSX with 22,000 miles for $21.5k. Clean carfax.
I'd still rather buy privately when buying used versus a dealer any day. Dealers inflate the $hit out of their prices because they know used cars are still hot right now. The key is finding a good seller.

yea, 2nd gen TSX is a pretty safe car to take off lease because many middle aged women bought them, and then baby the car. heeltoe wrote an article on it, it was kinda funny. i took care of my baby, but she has 2 accidents on her

^ LMAO. Hey man congrats on the pickup! Great color combo! I assume you went with the auto then?

How much did they give you for the Genesis?
Hyundais are like buying fake Gucci handbags. They look nice and smell good, but in 3 years it's gonna fall apart and when you get close up it looks cheap.

We owned a 05 Honda civic ex-se and a 05 Hyundai elantra GT, both bought new. Traded rural civic for my TSX. The civic was one annoying problem after another. It had 36k miles when Traded. When we Traded The hyundai for a '11 sonata It had over 100k proble m free miles and looked new

ooh that hill coming up from starbucks to the diner must have been fun to learn on haha. so when can i try out your car?? on the roads you learned on

congrats on the pick up. only thing that sucks about buying a car that is previously owned by a family with young kids, is the indentations left by car seats. the dealer you bought the car from is supposed to erase all the information in the unit before letting the car out of the shop because we dont want new customers seeing the previous owners contacts and destinations. privacy stuff.
