buying oem parts query

So I do a google search on a part like this

Acura 84111-TL0-G02ZC

about 70 bucks best I can find.

So then I search

Honda 84111-TL0-G02ZC

AND I SEE $62.xxx

So question

Shouldn't these be the same part ????? And hence the same price.

yeah, if you know they are the same part always buy from honda because it's cheaper. Just the price you pay for having luxury car.

No that's called ROBBERY.

My dealer is both tags. Same company. So I walk in one door with a part number it's one price.....and if I walk in a different door th e price is different............that's ROBBERY.

I'm gonna try it.......and if true I am calling the local news.

I am interested in this. I'm sure they are legally allowed to charge whatever they want. This seems similar to our car being called an Accord but they charge more stateside for it calling it a TSX. Same goes for the BRZ/FRS and the rebranding shenanigans associated with that car. If you own an Acura you pay for the different brand/marketing costs/R&D (among a lot of other things) associated with it. Parts aren't an exception.

I could just be talking out of my ass but it seems logical in my head.

If you're looking for the best prices, contact Tim. I've worked with him via piloteers.org, mdxers.org, and here, and he's always given outstanding customer service and the best prices. He will also price match if you find anything lower out there. Also, he knows Honda/Acura parts and can walk you through what you might need or alternatives.

Difference here is its the same company........just 2 different doors. Sales slip says mile high honda / acura on it.

I am going to get a quote at each one and see what happens.

I just go to Honda lol. Even those stupid clips that come from our bumper are like $.40 more than what the Honda clips are. It's stupid.

We feel your pain but there is no reason why the Acura dealer can't charge more for the same part. There are too many variables they can hide behind - the Acura door costs more than the Honda door, the logo on the door costs more, Acura charges us more, the box it comes in is heavier and so forth.

Quite simply, an informed customer saves money.

I know Ceb still seems unfair

Like prices......

I got a quote from kuni Honda for a fog switch and harness for 74.xx

Same parts from my favorite internet dealer shipped 38.xx.
Those farqs quoted some prices higher than what internet dealers called msrp.

Crazy. My money goes elsewhere. Even adding sales tax its still winner winner chicken dinner.

So true. One could have hoped that the internet would have brought the dealers to their senses but the popular consensus out there is that the US consumer is an idiot.

I once walked into Bernardi Audi (yes, the same outfit as Bernardi Acura). They have a big sign over the parts counter that they match other dealers prices but not online dealers.

Their taillight housing for my S6 was $310. I sat down at their computer and found the online Bernardi price of $138.77

The parts desk wouldn't price match so I bought it online and selected "pick up at parts counter" (you had that option back then), walked back and picked it up. They said I was the first customer to have done that.

Dealerships make their money on uninformed customers - the "recommended" services that are useless but pad the dealers bottom line and the "sky is falling" added maintenance that really needs to be done because the engine will drop out if you don't change the oil at every fill up.

I don't do my own servicing and would rather not deal with the local indy shops but I shop around for the best deal. One of the local Acura dealers does the same checks required during the second service routinely during oil changes - an oil change costs $69 and the service is $129. Honda dealers send out coupons so the A1 oil change is about $39.95

Buying VW parts is usually (but not always) cheaper than buying Audi parts.

In the ideal world the same part would cost the same money but as long as there are uninformed people willing to pay more because they walk in the Acura door rather than the Honda door just means that the dealers are raking in money.

You made a mistake

Businesses make their money on uninformed customers.

Any business will rip you off if given the opportunity
