Bad battery?

So, my sister's G1 TSX was totaled. Found an '09 CPO Tech for her and bought it. Yesterday, while setting up some of the tech stuff (it took me a while), I started and stopped the engine several times, left the ignition switch on (which switched on HID lights and AC condensor fan as well) while trying to do settings, set up homelink, etc. When I went to start it, dead battery -- no crank. I put my charger on it for about 45 minutes, after which it fired up and I took it for a ride. We just got the car after it had been sitting on a dealer's lot since June. It was in service 2 years and 10 months. Do you think the battery should be able to take more abuse than that or should I get a new one before winter? I appreciate your opinions!

oem battery's suck.

that said, you should get about 4-5 years out of it.

I would put it on a good charger, fully charge it, and drive it some. if it holds the charge then you good....if not...you know what to do/

OEM batteries are horrible. i've gotten about 3 yrs of life out of the 2 i had in my TL then they started to go. it is not uncommon for early death of the OEM batteries in acuras. you're lucky to get to 4 or 5 yrs. my avg life was 3 yrs. some get them last 5-6 yrs, some only get a yr.

if the battery holds a charge then great...if not...well...consider going after market with a battery that has better cranking power. i have yet to see an OEM battery last the 100 mos they claim.

I'm going to give it a good charge and see how it responds, but I think I'll pick one up before the winter. I'd normally replace it at four years anyway, so it's not that early.

You have to let the battery charge completely. Otherwise you are doing more harm than good. Let the battery charge on the lowest setting (probably 2amp) of your charger, and let the charge complete before you remove it.

When the charge is complete put a multi-meter across the battery and check the voltage drop. Never had to do this, but I am guessing around 10v should be ok. Anything less the battery is weak and should be replaced.

When I had my tsx inspected in Jan. 10 the dealer replaced the battery free. They told me it tested low even tho I did not have any problems with it. On the 2nd battery-still good (knock on wood)

I agree .. when ever I buy a car with a OEM battery (weather it be new or used car) I always replace the OEM battery with a better brand battery and then Sell the OEM battery .. I have had many bad Experiences with them so i know longer waste my time..

My OEM is going 4 years strong.

Any battery recommendations for what I should replace it with when it goes?

OEM battery is not the greatest. However, Acura offer free replacement for 4 yrs/50K miles. So bring it back to the dealer, let them do a load test, if it's defective, they will install a new one free of charge. I had mine replaced when it's 30 months old.

FYI you don't have to turn the car on to set up the tech features.

What do you do, turn it to accessory? I had it in the "on" position, engine not running, which is what I think caused all my troubles.
