Automatic Climate Control and A/C
Automatic Climate Control and A/C
I tried searching but get a million hits. Just bought a gently used 2012 TSX Wagon - stoked!
Question: Is the A/C is always ON when running the automatic climate control, or does the system cycle the A/C ON and OFF based on humidity and/or temperature? Couldn't find anything in the manual that specified.
Occasionally I get really bad dry eyes and the A/C can make them worse. Plus, running the A/C can reduce gas mileage - maybe not so much anymore? I remember my old '97 Integra I could see the difference in gas mileage with A/C on vs. off, but my Passat didn't show too much difference. So I've got in the habit of not running the A/C during fall/winter/spring unless the windows get foggy.

Pressing the AC button on the far right side turns it off manually but I think there might be a way to keep it from coming on as a default in the original set up features, at least my other car has that but its German.
If you turn the ac off, it will remain off for the next time you turn on the car. It will only turn back on when only if you hit the ac or auto button. If you hit off/on button, the ac will remain off.
Keep in mind that if you keep the AC off for a week or so, the air will smell like chemicals next time you turn on the AC.

If the Auto mode is on, AC will cycle on or off depending on the environment and requested inside temperature. There is no AC status indicator on the display.
Fortunately, our car allows us some control over the AC. You can manually force the AC to stay ON or OFF by pressing the AC button. Then the display will indicate the AC Status (AC ON or AC OFF). Note that the Auto mode will be overriden and the green light will come off.
At lease in my car (2010 V6 Base), this setup persists when the car is turned off and back on. There is no way to force the Auto mode to set the AC to OFF as a default.
If you push front Defrost, then the AC is turned back on (to de-humidify) until the defrost mode is turned off.
