Ambient Lighting
In the 2009 TSX brochure it mentions the car has ambient lighting. Are these lights in the footwells or is it refering to the spotlight that lights up the center console.

There are footwell lights, I believe the light's brightness is controlled by the gauge cluster's brightness.
I believe the ambient lighting encompasses the footwell lights, the center dash spotlight, and the light that lights up the center storage compartment on the non tech models.

Ok there is the the one near your map lights, i forgot what it was called. and there are footwell lights, its just covered with this black film. I noticed it when i was taking apart my glove box because I was trying to replace the glove box light with a hi-power LED. that was a fail at that time. Anyways, when I took the glove box out, I noticed there was LED. So I was curious and I turn on my Headlights on and noticed that there was a black plastic film covering it. That is why you cannot see it at night. So I just drilled through it and then replaced the glove box. At night, it is a very faint light. lighter than aftermarket ones. but its a pretty flat dispersion of light because the led is inside this clear square case.

No not the center console but the storage right below the radio on non-tech models.

I have yet to figure out what value the faint ambient lighting in the footwells really do, is it supposed to make me feel at peace and harmony, to make sure my feet are still there, or to give the extra feel of cavernous space? This trend, which I believe started with European cars (many have it in the back seat foot wells as well), continues to grow, but I ask why? Some recent introductions are now outlining interior styling cues with the lighting, to the point of even having some lite linear lighting to them, which could be cool, but I still don't get the footwells.

Guys i finally test drove the new TSX a few hours ago. I love how the car drive the clutch is much better and the shifter is alot smoother than mine. I did notice the footwell lights but only on the drivers side. My mom has these on her LS430 its good if you drop something on the floor or have a purse or bag in the floor cause it helps you see that alot easier and also sets a really nice mood inside the car. I envy you 2Gen owners and hopefully will be joining you soon.

WTH happened to my garage
Hmm...didn't know about the footwell lights, no wonder I was able to rescue my spilled beer so easily the other night. It didn't have a chance to splash on the carpet, just the mat.
Just
Kidding.
Seriously, never noticed them other than the one up top.
