4900 miles and my rear brakes are below 70% life

I have a 2010 TSX which does not qualify for the brake settlement (my VIN number does not apply). It only has 4900 miles and the rear brakes are just below 70% life and the front brakes are just a little above 70%!

Is this normal?

Seems like a bit aggressive wear. What is your determination of 70% available?

I have about 6k on my 2010 and not only do i see excessive wear on all 4 pads, but i already feel the brakes aren't as good stopping the car as when they were new. Aftermarket here i come!

I don't know how worn my pads are but they certainly don't stop like it used to. We just might need to re-bed them in again.

My bet is that the tech guestimated the wear based on a quick look at the pads during their standard issue "gazillion" point inspection service . I would not worry about this report. Look at the fluid level in the reservoir and that is probably a better general indication of your brake pad wear.

What??? Looking at the brake fluid level??? Sure if its dark as all hell or high or low it would give you an IDEA but it is not a substitute for LOOKING at the brakes. The Tech uses a tool to measure the thickness of the pad, it (depending on what kind the shop bought) has 3 green, 3 yellow and 3 red sizes. They match it up to the pad and whatever one does they do the math and fill out the form. I know I used to be a tech at a dealer.

Could be a tech trying to get some work? After all, if you need to replace the brakes early, he gets more business. IMO, it's a non-issue for at least 10,000ish miles (probably more). Why fret now?
