Now.. regarding FE..
I've had a 2G TSX loaner (automatic of course) and during pure freeway driving, I got 34 mpg. This is with Oregon's wonderful premium gas with 10% ethanol. I was impressed to say the least. The other tank I got with mixed driving was 26 mpg.

Can't wait to drive
I am getting 23-24mpg on my 2nd gen TSX. I do lot of city and stop-and-go freeway driving, however. I only have 1800 miles on my car, so it still has a lot of miles to go for it to be broken-in
In a related note, I'm currently on the 1st gen loaner TSX and I got 30mpg with mostly freeway driving. The engine and transmission are a lot smoother than my new car, which tells me I haven't fully broken in the 2nd gen TSX yet.
I guess it's time to "open up" my car a bit more when I get it back

I've been keeping a spreadsheet on this. I have run 8 tank-fulls so far.
2900 Miles on the clock.

I'm getting 26.3 average thus far.
These have all been typical runs with my 24 mile commute and a portion of in-town driving. Wisconsin weather (F-in cold)
MID average for all these has been 28.0. This is the average of all my Trip A readings at fill-up. Trip B (never reset) has stayed right at 28.0 also.
Average-Average Speed for these runs has been 33 MPH. I don't have a good formula to convert that to city/highway.
Running 93 Octane, usually Citgo since the station by me doesn't have the ethanol.
If anyone was interested.

Driving fast is wrong...I once did it in my old car when i was 18 but there were no one on I95. BUT IT WAS WRONG. That 120MPH ticket from the FHP really made me realize that its pointless to speed, you're just endangering other people's lives and you waste more gas trying to spare that extra 15mins. And as you can see by my age, I fall into that big group of ppl that are "reckless" and "stupid" but I realized how "stupid" i was.

Just a reminder to all, especially in the Northern states. . . Gas is reformulated in the winter providing a lower BTU value (avoids moisture build up) and you will get lower milage in addition to the already milage sapping colder engine. I was averaging 29.5 in the early fall and am now getting 26.2. This is a larger swing than I had seen in my Mazda 3s - (all conditions were same 35 mile commute).
Another interesting note is to check out this months Car and Driver in the editorial, great explination on why different people see different milage results, any where from lugging an engine vs driving in higher gears at constant speed, throttle response, constant holding of the throttle. They were able to demonstrate a 25% difference based upon techniques that did not affect your time on arrival.

Here in Australia we go bye Liters per 100km - not sure how that converts to US mpg.
I have used 3 tanks so far - filled up at the same pump each time, my readings have been -
738 kms - 55.79 liters = 7.56 Lts / 100km
842 kms - 63.49 liters = 7.54 Lts / 100km
784 kms - 54.59 liters = 6.96 Lts / 100km

Got 27mpg on my first tank. I commute 70miles per day in combined highway and city in the bay area. That's better than I thought considering the amount of traffic I sit in. Hopefully the mileage improves with time.

For combined mileage that's pretty good and asking for more from this car is arguably getting greedy. The more highway miles in the ratio, the better it's going to look. The best I've done in my first gen is 37 mpg of pure highway. That wasn't even taking it particularly easy either.

From my fuel log, all calculated since i find the MID off by 1-1.5 mpg:
Max: 29.6 - 100% highway
Min: 21.19 - subzero temps, letting the car warm up for awhile, stop and go, and some spirited driving
Avg since May 2008 - 25.45

Cruising at around 70. A lot of this was in the mountains too. I was quite surprised as well. This was right after I got my car and I'm usually more like 32-34 on the highway now. I think part of it was that it was "new" (bought it CPO with 50k miles) and the car I was coming from, a somewhat heavily modded 97 Civic, was so much less comfortable that I was pretty content to just cruise along. I was being passed as much as I was passing then whereas now, I'm passing 98% of the cars on the road with only the idiots blowing by me to occupy any police waiting ahead of me.
The car can be driven very economically but it just begs not to be. Let's just say it's a convincing argument.

I should add that this time of year, during my normal daily 100% city/suburban driving, I average about 18 mpg. Ethanol gas, crappy weather and heavy snow tires take a toll. The same type of driving in the summer is between 22 and 24 or so.

I just refueled and I was disappointed, I have 3200 miles on the car, and I was only getting 18MPG
I know some say during the break in its ok but I was expecting better results.
This is in NYC with the winter and snow, and all city driving but I do not beat on this car at all, basic acceleration auto tranny shifts at 3k.
Best I ever got out of this car was probably 26MPG highway.
My 3G TL was consistently getting 22MPG+ and 31MPG on the highway, it was a 6spd. Makes me want the power of the TL back.......

Can't wait to drive
I am averaging 25mpg, mixed city and hwy driving. I have about 2300miles on the car now. That's a bit improved over 21-22mpg a few posts ago when I got the car new, but not better than my 1st gen TSX 6MT, when I regularly get 25-26 mixed city/hwy. I do try to drive more conservatively, too, and go easier on the gas than before, and try to pick up momentum when going downhill without using more gas. I also avoid stop and go traffic by changing my schedule. I'll report again at 5000 miles.
