Damn, Ben, nice brakes. In the second pic, where is the jack stand placed? I have seen people place jack stands in locations other than jack points and I've always been curious about that.

Apple products have always been overpriced for the hardware, but when you're buying Apple, you're not buying just the hardware, you're buying the experience.

MC, still think you should've gone with an SSD if you're doing a lot of Photoshop work. Hell, even a cheap small one would make a good scratch disk.

common sense plays a big part with jack stand placements.
our bodies are unibody frames, so becareful!

depending on the type of work I do, dictates where I place the stand.
the corner of the subframe is excellent!!
also, you could use the lower control arm/brake rotor. Looking at the picture again, it looks like he used the lower control arm.

Good point, I've been tempted to use 4 jack stands to hold up the car before, but realized it would flex the frame, so I didn't.

Where on the lca would I place the stand? It seems like the arm is usually sloped at an angle, and I'd be fearful of something slipping.

since i dont have the car infront of me right now, I do believe its not the actual LCA, but a flat part of the LCA.

MrOtocinclus, I came home and checked.

the picture where i said the stands are on the rear subframe is incorrect.
I used the unibody rails. not sure if the TSX has this, but they look solid at the end points.

Yeah I usually jack up from the end of the rail looking things...the manual tells you to use that part, but I also use this metal looking thingy in the front my uncle showed me

Also, is it safe to jack your car up, put it on 4 jack stands then take all the wheels off...?
Some people say yes and some no...

another question, where i've read debatable things on it.

do you torque your wheels when the wheel is off the ground, or on the ground?

owner menu said, tighten lug nuts by hand, put the car on the ground, then tighten them.

that's what i've been doing for the past year, but someone told me it's better to do it while the wheel is up in the air?/

Ed I torque on the ground, my dad laughed at me when i torqued with the torque wrench. He said torque your wheels like a man. He then proceded to put the crowbar onto the lug and jumped up and down on it. That is the day my father taught me torque wrenches are obsolete.

yup, screw on in the air, lower car, hand tighten on the ground. you really think you are strong enough to tighten to 200+ lbs? mechanics are idiots and just use the airgun alot of the time. i jumped on an X bar to get the lugs off my boys beemer, and they wrench wouldn't budge, and im over 220lbs... that means the lugs were 250+

You always tighten or loosen lugnuts on the ground. You cannot torque the lugnuts in the air.

It is generally safe to loosen the lugnuts, then put the car on jackstands to remove the wheels, rotate them, tighten by hand, lower the car and torque the lugnuts.

Think about it gentlemen, if the car is in the air...how are you going to get the lugs to loosen!?!

like ceb said, loosen on ground then jaack up and remove wheels.

On the RX-8, There are a few good spots to place the jack stands on the front and rear sub frame. Since that car is so damn low, I cant use the side rails. BBKs are installed now. Have to bleed and get all the air of the system. Pedal feel is still a bit spongy. Bad ass brakes nonetheless

How are you going to grip the handle?

Just velcro a holster to the front of your lower seat cushion - reach between your legs and done. At that point it is also pointing to your windows - probably where you want it to be.

since we're on this talk. i'm gonna do a tire rotation, oil change, and also install new fender liner on both sides this week. my intention was to jack up the car, and put it on jackstands, and have it on them for about 5-6 hours. i know people technically ztore cars on stands, so i should be fine for a few hours. where do you guys suggest i put the stands? i also plan to plasti the wheels with them off the car, which is why it'll be for 5-6 hours. i plan on leaving the wheels under the car while im working on it, just because im afraid of the stands failing, even though they hopefully shouldnt lol
