2013 Accord V6 EX-L
After I recommended my in-laws check out the new Accord it only took one trip to the dealer to look at it then a test drive and they were sold.
They ended up settling on the "base" V6, which is the EX-L so it has leather, bluetooth, lane watch, keyless entry, 17 inch wheels. According to them it has tons of power and was easy to achieve the 34 mpg on the highway as they got 34.1 average on the way home from the dealer (1.5 hrs). All while burning regular fuel.
I don't know exactly what he paid since they traded a car in but they are thrilled with the deal they got and love the balance of power/economy. I can't believe that a 270+ hp V6 can get 34 mpg on the highway, I guess the VCM in combo with the 6-speed tranny and reduced weight was the perfect recipe? I think the car looks great as well.
My question to you all is for roughly $30k would you get a base TSX or an Accord EX-L V6?
My wife and I have a 2010 base TSX with 30,000 trouble free miles but honesly if I was buying right now I really think I would lean V6 Accord. My only concerns would be has Honda finally figured out the VCM gremlins that have plagued the Pilot? Is the 6-speed Auto built strong enough? If it's basically the same one used in the TL/MDX/Other acura products then I'd have some faith.
I know the Acura name is worth something and the 4-cylinder TSX probably has better balance/handling but I bet more then a handful of us would go with the Accord if given the choice currently.

If you don't mind they way the size and looks of the new accord, I think the V6 is a good deal. There are few other threads on this issue. You want to look there for more discussion.

I understand it has been discussed before but that link compared the 4 cylinder versions of both. I guess my point was that the EX-L V6 is a direct price competitor with virtually the same features.
Main differences are the 13 accord is much faster/gets better fuel economy/a different looks and a little bit larger of a car. I'm very happy with our TSX but I'd love a V6 for the same price that uses regular fuel and gets outstanding mpg.

Good point BobbyC, I'm curious to see how Acura builds the next gen TLX. Direct injection, 7-speeds, ect. may get it in the ballpark of the new Accord for mpg. If the design is NSX inspired i'm sure they will have no problem selling them.
But for what you can get currently, 2013 model for 2013 model it's gonna take some effort to steer buyers to a base TSX when they can drive down the street and settle in a brand new accord V6. I would think some of the typical buyer demographics overlap, especially with the accord getting smaller/more luxurious.

i agree.
people who buy acuras and people who buy hondas are different though.
idk.. when i buy a luxury brand like acura, lexus, infiniti..etc i buy it for the service and quality of build over their cheaper brand.
i havent driven the new accord yet but my wife has a 2012 accord and compared to my 2012 SE, it feel cheaper. the plastic feel cheaper, the fabrics def feel cheaper and the cabin has a lot more road noise.
its like buying a pair of designer jeans over levis.
i buy it for the quality and the service/guarantee than comes along with the higher price tag.

I currently own a 2009 Accord V6 Coupe, and I have really enjoyed driving it. The 8th gen didn't get anywhere close to 34 mpg, but I have gotten about 29 on long road trips, average 22 mixed, and get a measly 16-17 when driving all city. Now I'm shopping around for a Sport Wagon. lol

if u put 215 size tire on TSX. it is likely it will get similar mpg as new Accord V6.
TSX still has better handling, better quality interior and i believe it will depreciate less than Accord. ELS music system is superior.
Also the glass heat insulation in Acura is better.

ACOUSTIC WINDSHIELD
Special acoustic glass is used on the 2012 TSX windshield to help reduce noise entering the cabin. Tuned specifically to attenuate wind-noise frequencies, the unique windshield uses two layers of 2 mm safety glass with an in-between layer of a transparent elastic acoustic membrane for a total thickness of 4.7 mm. The acoustic windshield (in conjunction with 4 mm thick side windows) helps position the TSX at the top of its class in wind-noise performance.
EXTERIOR GLASS
The TSX features 4.0 mm thick glass for the side windows (previous thickness was 3.1 mm) and all exterior window glass on the TSX has a special UV-resistant coating that helps reduce interior temperatures, lessens glare, and helps protect the leather and other surfaces inside the vehicle from fading.

If the Accord V6 sedan came with 6MT, then yeah, I'd probably take it over the TSX if buying new today. To me, the real question is how the Accord Sport with 6MT compares to the TSX, because they seem pretty similar on paper.

I traded my '12 base TSX for an Accord EXL V6 Nav. The low depreciation on the TSX made it easy. I doubt the Honda will do as well on depreciation. I'll miss the nicely trimmed interior of the TSX, but the Honda isn't bad for the price. The seats are pretty much the same but the padding in the Honda is a little softer. Both are very comfortable.
The Accord is noticeably quieter. Wind noise is about the same as the Acura. Road noise on all but the grainiest pavement is significantly less on the Accord.
The Accord has a softer ride but has really good damping. The Accord steering is better. It has much better on center feel and it's lighter overall. The V6 Accord lacks the more sporty feel of a TSX but up to 8/10 driving it's fine.
The V6/6speed auto is is a winner. Smooth and powerful it definitely is! The mid range torque and that nice sounding growl of a Honda J series V6 make a high speed pass a low stress experience. I get to enjoy the effortless power of a V6 and still get slightly better fuel economy than the TSX did, on regular gas to boot.
I cant wait to see what Acura makes of this platform and drive train. That would be a very desirable car, and Acuras' low depreciation may make it no more expensive to own than the Honda!

My TSX is a V6 and the Accord we just got the 4cyl. Based on craftsmanship I'd still pick my TSX as it feels more solid (even though the technology included in the Accord is nicer). My V6 has gotten 33 mpg on a trip from Virginia Beach to Falls Church, VA and back. I think thats pretty reasonable.

I was at the Honda dealer last weekend getting my TSX V6 serviced. While I was there I checked out the new Accord. Got to talking with a salesman and he offered to let me test drive one. I chose the EX-L V6 Nav. I have to say that I was very impressed. If I were in the market, the top 2 cars I'd consider would be the Accord Touring and the other would be a TL Advance. The main demerit that I'd give the Accord is, (while I consider the styling a definite improvement over the previous model), it's still not quite as sporty looking as I'd like. But that would not prevent me from buying one. Can't wait to see the Acura version of the new Accord platform.
