DIY: 2009 Nav screen glare fix / mod
Hey guys, those who drive a 09 tsx know our nav screen glare is bad. Looking at it, I thought most of the glare was from the angled lense, not the screen its self. I though if I could somehow cut a window with a dremel the problem would be gone. Luckily it was easier then that.
First I took a large suction cup from a old window mount nav and use it to pull the unit out. It come out suprisingly easy. Pull top edge down the dash. Wiggle it out transversly to get the the back two cable harness clips.
The plastic Lense is only held on by about ten clips. You will need to pry them apart with a thin putty knife or blade as they look to be factory glued. Dont worry about busting them off but watch out for flying debris. You wont need to reuse these at all.
After lense removal, I used a utility blade to shave the tabs as flat as possible.
The bottom edge will have a bunch of holes, probably from injection molding. I was planing to cover them with a trimmed piece of brushed aluminum card stock but was only able to find satin silver sheet. It matched our dash trim better anyways. Safer bet would be to go black but I wanted to accent it.
Cost of total project. $1.05 for the card stock.
As you can see on the first pic with lense, the reflection in horrible. With the lense removed virtually no reflection. Stock screen even seems to have an anti reflection coating.
