12V power for radar detector

Has anyone determined if any of the three wires that go into the rear view mirror are 12V and ground? Or has anyone dropped the overhead console yet? Looks like two screws in the sunglass holder. There is definitely 12V power there.

I'll try it and let others know, but if someone has already done the work, please share!

Looking to tuck the detector right up behind the mirror and not have to run wires all around. This works great on my vette, but there are a lot more "electronics" in the mirror and someone sells a little adapter to pull off 12 V.

You might want to search the 3rd Gen TL forum on: invisicord which is a phone cord adapter that plugs into an existing wire harness. The phone cords work for Escort, BEL, and V1 detectors which are pretty popular in these forums. The Tsx should be very similar to the TL in that you can plug into the Mirror harness. A number of people simply use a phone cord as and save themselves the time/$ of ordering the Invisicord.

Maybe someone could scan the Factory Manual's wire diagram for the auto-dimming mirror to help you out.

Well, trying to get into the overhead console did not work too well! Removed one of the screws visible in the sunglass holder. whatever was behind it fell down, and could not get screw back in. It was not obvious how the console comes down, so I bagged it. Dealer put the screw back in (no charge).

I measured the voltage at the mirror cable, but got inconsistent results as to what was power/ground/signal. Without an electrical diagram, I was hesitant to jack into that.

Soooooo, I went the easy way. Ran the wire around the headliner, a pillar and down to the DRIVER's side fuse block. This was a piece of cake, and the wire is completely hidden. Just tuck it in. I used a very small flat blade screwdriver to push it in where it was little tight.

Then buy one of those fuse tap things at Autozone. There is an open fuse holder (I think its number 23 or 25, but you will see, its obvious) that is ignition switch controlled. Plugged it in there, and all is great!
