My 04 TSX w/ navi has three ways of playing audio, AM, FM, CD. It doesn’t play even have one way of playing mp3 files.

The 09 TSX w/ tech has 11 ways of playing audio, AM, FM, XM, CD, CD (MP3, WMA), DTS surround sound, DVD-Audio Surround Sound, USB flash Drive (MP3, WMA, AAC), Auxiliary input (anything with a headphone jack), ipod port for newer ipods and iphone, and Bluetooth stereo audio (from a very short list of cell phones thru the Handslink system).



I have nearly 100 dvd-audio and dts titles and 900 CDs at least

I am going to wait unitl they have a 3g network iphone before I get one of those. They supposed to come out later this year.

I don’t know if I will ever use every method, but that is one impressive list.

I think it's a bit unfair to compare the '09 with the 2004 when the 2005, 2006, added to the mix: XM, AUX input. (That true MP3-on-CDR wasn't provided in 2008 was a travesty.)

I also am skeptical of the Bluetooth HFL connection for long listening. not a test drive, but a road trip. I have a Logitech bluetooth stereo earpods, and it starts acting wonky with any BT audio connection other than the dedicated plug-in dongle. That's only one example, one experience, but still. My preferred method of "third party" MP3 playing would be a wired connection. I'm looking forward to a '09 buyer testing this for extended drives (30 mins or more).

This thread does more to explain why I have no interest in the 09. All I listen to in AM and FM. I don't even play CD's.

Really? I'm the opposite. I very rarely listen to FM, never AM. Just CDs for me. I would love to be able to use my iPod.

I hoping to listen to DVD-Audio and DTS almost exclusively for the first 6 months or so.

I had a TL loaner today (customer appreciation week check-up) and blasted away on "I am the Walrus" from Beatles Love and "Bargain" by the Who, both on DVD-Audio. It was a near religious experience.

It still drives me nuts that Acura didn't even include a basic AUX input on the 04 TSX's.

Although I am happy to say that my TSX is now paid off (just mailed my last payment a week ago) and 2 days ago was the 5th anniversary since I bought it.

Hate to admit it, but DVD-Audio is actually a big decider for my next car which I had planned would be Acura, all Acuras have it now. Some Cads, Lexus, Infiniti, have it. some models just do surround and DTS but not hi-rez DVD-Audio.
Jealous you have so many DVD-A titles, the rare, popular ones now go for over $50 (and more) on ebay but I found some at a local used CD shop.
Does the 09 TSX play sound from DVD Video? many cars now do, so you can listen to DVD concerts. Lexus plays the video too, if you stop the car.

Maybe your neck of the woods, but I've seen AUX inputs to car audio for more than 10 years. Maybe it's just the car makers who dragged their feet (or went cheap with the audio?).

I don't think the TSX while play the sound from DVD-Video. I never have heard of an Acura ELS system that can do that.

The Mark Levingston of the IS 250 can, but the sound quality of that system is not even in the same universe as the TL, not to mention the TSX which is even better than the TL.

I have quite a few of DVD-Audio and DTS titles that I have purchased. I also have DVD-Audio and DTS titles that were created by individuals using analog and digital sources using various methods of wave form cancellation. Some transfers from SACD to DTS as well. There is lot out there to torrent swap if you look. I have been out of the loop on surround sound torrents since before demonoid shut down. I believe they are back up now.

What happened is that like Blu-ray and HD-DVD there are two competing formats, DVD-Audio and SACD. Thankfully in the movie world there will be only one man standing, but DVD-Audio and SACD has pretty much killed each other. There just isn’t enough audiophile interest out there to keep both formats viable. DTS isn’t bad, but it is compressed and at a bit rate similar to CD.

There seems to be hope on the horizon. Both formats used in Blu-ray (for that matter HD-DVD) which are DTS HD, Dolby True HD are not compressed can provide the same quality and then some of the DVD-Audio and SACD. Record companies are moving more and more into digital downloads. I don’t know if they will ever offer albums in these new formats other than concert videos. Anyway, there isn’t any car out there that can play them at this point.

Back to you original question, is DVD-Audio dead? In terms of new studio titles, probably dead. Please refer my other post on the exciting world of torrent swapped surround music to get the whole story.

That Meteor Silver color on your TSX is rare. In the five years the TSX has been out, I could count on one hand the number of times I have seen it. And I dont live in a little town but car crazy Miami. That is a nice color. They are rare.

How many miles do you have on your TSX and how long do you intend to keep her?

Really? I live in Sunny Isles or North Miami Beach, but I work in Downtown Miami. I've quite seen a few Meteor Silver TSXs. I actually saw more when I lived in NYC but I digress.

I also like that color a lot and it's actually the color I planned to get since I first wanted a TSX in '05. Over the years though, I have never seen a Meteor Silver Metallic or what has become Glacier Blue Metallic driven by a male. I know

I'm quite happy with the color I did finally get and do not regret it one bit esp when you live in a place where it rains so damn often.

Back to the topic at hand. I thinks it's fucking cool as hell that the '09 has so many ways to play music. I have a couple of DVD concerts so that would have been cool to have been able to hear in the car. But to be honest, I'm happy that I can't play mp3 cds anymore and am forced to use an mp3 player. There is sooo much less clutter in my car. I had soooo many mp3 cds. I think I made a new one every month X 36 months. You get the point. Now I just swap songs.

I have a question for anyone who has or will be in a 09 in the near future. Does the HFL system for the phone use the same speakers as the radio/cd/xm/aux? And if you attempt to play your music through the bluetooth feature, does it use the audio from the HFL like when you're on a call or the audio system's speakers. I've been wondering about this since I heard that the new TSX had bluetooth music capability. I play music through my blackberry curve and it sounds great but when I make a phone call thru the HFL, you hear the music transfer from the audio system to the phone/bluetooth system to make your call and it sounds dreadful for about a second or so. So I was wondering if the bluetooth would that it's playing music and switch or if there weren't two separate audio systems. So can anyone with a new TSX try this out, please

Or is it that my TSX does not use all speakers for a phone call and that's why it sounds different. If that's the case then there wouldn't be two separate audio systems, I suppose. Does anyone know? Thanks. I did try using "search" but couldn't find anything related.

I stopped by the Acura dealer yesterday and test drove a new TSX MT. I love everything about this car, even the 'element' has grown on me. Also test drove an '06 TL and an '08 A4. I'm set on getting a new TSX next month.

I have a Helio Ocean which doesn't work with the TSX's USB audio, but the blutetooth worked great. The pairing process was simple enough using the voice commands. The HFL uses the front center speaker for calls and while using the phone music is moved to only the rear speakers so you can talk and still have the music playing quietly in the background (on CDs and Radio, my phone doesn't allow playing music and phone at the same time).

Is it that different from the Alabaster Silver Metallic (NH700M) on my 2006? I see those regularly, and there's even one other in my parking garage (work).
Good point. The DVD-A is technically an option with the Technology package.

On my 2006 it's using the same speakers, there are no "HFL speakers." I haven't tested to see if HFL connections are playing through the rear speakers, but it sounds like it. What I haven't tried is seeing if I can store fader settings to HFL like it stores volume setting independent of the audio system.

I'm going to guess/assume that the '09 TSX plays the A2DP signal through the audio system just as HFL is.

Just about any bluetooth phone will work, but not many yet with advanced features like bluetooth audio.

The last time I checked the phone list was outdated, at least for AT&T. I believe the new Samsung A747 SLM will do bluetooth audio and transfer the entire for phone book for example.
