09 A4 vs 09 TSX

Thats more like it.
Audi's all-new A4 Avant made its world debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show, but the cargo mover made a rather quiet North American debut at last week's New York Auto Show. Along with that debut, Audi released some information on the U.S.-bound A4 — including the sedan and the wagon.
The biggest news is that Audi will only offer a four-cylinder engine in the A4 Avant. That engine will be Audi's tried and true 2.0L turbocharged TFSI unit, tuned to produce 211 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque — up from the current model's 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. Despite being down a few cylinders, the A4 Avant is said to be able to make the sprint from 0-60 in 6.5 seconds.
The A4 Sedan will come standard with the Avant's lone engine choice, but a 3.2L V6 — with 265 horsepower — will also be available.
Audi says "a number of transmission option" will be available for both models, but only listed that both cars will be available with a six-speed manual and that the 3.2 L V6 sedan can be had with a Tiptronic gearbox.
Oddly, Audi's press release had no mention of a Quattro all-wheel drive system for either car, but it would be hard to imagine Audi not offering its signature technology in its best selling model.

By the look of the 09 A4 is a lot better than the new TSX as well...
A couple yrs later, I may go for either the 09 or 10 A4, or the new Bimmer 1 series.

But yeah, A4 was very appealing. I think when my TL-S lease is up, I will likely take a look at the A4. Give them a little time to work out the inevitable kinks...

If your are leasing it... will not be a concern about the reliability, as it is all under warranty anyways... plus.... I have got tons of problem w/ my TSX anyways and I really don't see how much better it is than other European cars.... seriously. Plus, trying to get warranty claim is such a pain in Canada.... IMO at least...... I really don't see any reason why don't give a try on Audi or Bimmer... at least my friend's Bimmer will get the problem fix immediately once it is reported... instead of getting pushed around by the dealer just for a damn warranty claim.

I don't even put the 2009 A4 and the 2009 TSX in the same class any more. The 2009 A4 is obviously a cut above the 2009 TSX. I won't mind paying a little more for it because it's worth it. Also, the 2009 A4 Avant is breathtaking! If I can get it with the 3.0 TDI, it will be my next car.... :-)

From the pictures that I've seen of the A4 I just can't get a sense of how much bigger it is than the outgoing model. But, this is the car that is on my long term horizon. The combination of looks, power, ergonomics is very very appealing. IMHO, unless the price difference is really big, the 09 TSX can't touch it.

I honestly think that if my time frame for buying a car was Fall/Winter 2008, I would probably have bought this.
I really want an A5 but this is very nice too. Overall, both are much better looking that the 2009 TSX. The specs are great too.

Actually, for some strange reason according to Audi's site, the quattro A4 2.0T is rated at
City
20 mpg
Highway
31 mpg
Combined
24 mpg
The numbers I posted above we for the FWD version.
So we could be looking at
22/33 though I doubt it will go as high as 33.
Either way TSX =

Com'on..... Audi man, it is an European car..... more solid chassie and handling, and as expected to be a bit more expensive. The TSX is not position at a lower price range neither.... I really don't think there will be a huge gap in price differential when comparing the 09 A4 FWD w/ the 09 TSX

I wouldn't fret if you have a gen 1 TSX, unless you're like Tumby and you've had problems with it. My gen 1 is going to be with my long past when I get my next car. Its still a good car for its time.
However, if given the choice between the 2 ON PAPER, the Audi looks better. Can't really make that assessment until you drive them both though.

I love the styling of the new audis!! I've heard the interior ergonomics on them is impeccable too.

I must be in the wrong place. I thought this was a TSX forum.
I don't think you want to take performance out of the equation. That's the A4's advantage. The TSX is more reliable by far than anything built by VW/Audi. The new TSX interior, with the premium navi/sound system/iPod hookup/etc looks like a huge step forward over the current model. The A4 has typically been priced at least $5k higher than the TSX, although I haven't comparison-shopped the new ones yet. I have to say, the front end of the new TSX does not appeal to me, but the front end of the new A4 doesn't appeal to me either.
Bottom line: Don't go by what you "hear". Read the reviews, study the specs, take a test drive.

And? Should we all just bury our heads in the sand and buy Acura's?
The 09 TSX is a huge step forward in everything but driving dynamics which IMO isn't really a step forward at all since I could care less about MP3 players and navigation.
But your last point is an important one. Test the cars for yourself.

I can understand people who have been 'loyal' to their favorite car makers, but at the same time...why? At this point in time, if I was older...had a decent job, and was about ready to replace my TSX...the A4 would be screaming my name. Audi has taken some giant leaps forward from what I know of their previous reputation. I'm not only talking about their styling, performance, and ergonomics...but from what I've heard, their reliability has also taken a 180 degree turn for the good. Sure, they may not be perfect....and yea, Honda is definitely the king of reliability, but to be honest, I'm willing to sacrifice a tiny bit of reliability for a more rounded car...and one that's progressing forward....not one that's staying the same, or much less going backwards.
2009 A4 > 2009 TSX IMHO
