Will this setup rub?
Will this setup rub?
I was wondering if a set of rims 17x7.5 with 48mm offset mounted with 235/45/17 tires would rub on stock height.
Someone else on this forum has the same rims with the same tire size and rubs once in while with ppl in the backseats but he has a 45mm offset.
What other tire suggestions are there?

that is about an inch less of sidewall and without a drop that probably wouldnt look good. I had considered but with all the potholes in nyc I would be worried.
Would 225/50/17 have problems ? We could put 225/50/17s on the Type S rims at 6.5" so I thought for an inch more, I would need something with a width of 235.

A 235-45 tire is closer to the stock tire diameter of the 215-50-17 oem size, but is 20mm (0.8") wider. Actually that is the stock size tire on the 2004-2006 TL.
I think that if you are going to bother with 17" rubber, it makes sense to stuff a 235mm tire under the car - they are about 9% wider than the 215mm.
Rubbing is another story - but there are plenty of people running 235-40-18 rubber and seem not to have major rubbing issues (but some do).

You should be just fine. Remember that now all tires are constructed the same; be aware of those that have a squared-off shoulder as these tend to be a bit wider compared to those with a rounded shoulder.
