Who has +40 or +42 offset & lowered?

I searched and found many posts, but I need a quick, straight forward answer from someone that has the same setup. I'm contemplating lowering the car about 1.5", but I'm a llittle apprehensive because of my current wheel/tire setup --17 X 17.5" with 215/50 tires, +42 offset. (I would have gone with a higher offset if only I had found this forum before I bought the wheels! )

The rear rubs when I hit a certain type of bump or dip. I cut the plastic tabs and that minimized rubbing, except for when I drive a little fast over a speed bump.

What's your lowering setup for wheels with +40 or +42 offset? What brand springs or coilovers? How many inches lowered? Problems?

Thanks.

My simple advice to you is... Don't do it. Find wheels with higher offsets or leave your car alone.

I'm lowered on Tein Basics 3.5"f/2.75"r with 18x7.5 +38 offset wheels, 225/40 tires with SPC camber kit all around. I rolled all four fenders and cut tabs out. I never rub anymore when I'm by myself in the car. With 1 or more passengers it rubs a little in the back when I hit a big dip or come off a speed bump too hard. I have almost perfect alignment/toe with the camber kit.

From experience I can tell you that low offset can work on our cars. Aslong as you are willing to do some body work, It can work. You guys are scared shitless of low offsets for some reason

I run a 19x8 with a 40 offset. 225/35/19 Toyos. I have Tein H-Tech springs with a 1.5 inch front drop, and a 1 inch rear drop. A little rubbing in the back, I cut the plastic tabs and its better, but I need to roll my fenders. I love the way mine look.

What I don't understand is that you know you have to make fender modifications with low offset wheels and also risk rubbing... so why not just get higher offset wheels? It just amazes me. I think most folks don't want to go through the trouble of making all the little modifications just to make the wheels fit. Hell, if I were you I'd spend the money you are using to roll the fenders, etc. to purchase better wheels that actually fit.

Plain and simple, I purchased the wheels BEFORE I joined this site. Therefore I had no clue that we needed specific offsets to make it work. I don't have money to go through rims whenever I run into a little problem like this. To roll my fenders it cost me $85... how do you figure that $85 could help me out with new wheels? I didn't choose a +38 offset on purpose. Don't worry, lower offsets won't kill you, please stop whining like little school girls

Either way I'm selling my wheels in the next 1-2 months and upgrading to 19" wheels. 19x8.5 +45 offset. Are you happy?

Just remember for some, customization means crafty use of a bat and sledge hammer.

I like they way my 40 offest 19s look. Its agressive, and who cares if you have to roll the fenders?? It isnt hard...I think wheels with too low of an offset look funny, like the car is about to tip over.

Like when you are behind a car on the highway, and the wheels are way in, and obviously a very high offset, I think it looks retarted.

I know what your talking about. I saw a DC5 today with supposedly ultra light weight rims (Japanese wheels) that looked so horrid. They were about 4 inches tucked inside (not tucked as in dropped low). They looked like 15-16" rims with a 70 offset

EXACTLY. There was a V6 mustang that used to roll around my town that had some Motegi wheels that were pushed in at LEAST 4-5 inches from the fender. I laughed every time I saw that thing. You dont put Motegis on a mustang, as if being a V6 mustang wasnt bad enough!
